Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.

"Stop," Dave whispered. "Why do you keep trying to act nice. I already told you that you shouldn't because I get I'm not worth it. What else do you want?" He stared blankly ahead into the counter's side. He didn't understand. Why did this guy keep up the act? Perhaps he was just trying to lead Dave on. In that case, maybe it was wise to play along with it so the guy could have his fun. People sometimes got kicks out of raising somebody's hopes in order to smash them back down. Dave didn't have the energy to play along anymore, though. He just shook his head.

”Did ya ever consider the fact the reason I’m actin’ nice is cause I am nice?” Who needed to act nice? He didn’t act anything out. People just assumed he was an asshole because he did a lot of things that assholes did. He yelled or maybe barked would be a more appropriate description, he smacked things that were in his way, and he just spoke in a natural ‘stay the hell away from me’ tone of voice. Looking like he was about to murder someone all the time might make it a little difficult to believe that he was nice too.

There was nothing Dave could say. No matter what the guy said, there were no words that could prove he was telling the truth. There was nothing anyone could say, because they didn't actually lke him or want to be nice to him. He tried to look up at the clerk, but couldn't see anything. He hadn't realized that the small amount of makeup he used had been wi[ed off and that the stress lines from all the sleepless nights were all to visible. He put his forehead back on the counter, a feeling of pain in his gut.

The guy seemed to fall silent and the room followed suit. Tenchi wasn’t a conversationalist so he simply allowed the silence to settle and offered no other comment. Since the guy didn’t accept the offer for something to drink, Tenchi also didn’t leave to get him something either so he was left to simply just stand there and wait. He glanced over his shoulder and considered going back to the hole he usually hides in and just simply paint the rest of the day away. Honestly, he should start locking the damn door to the shop when his old man leaves. He drifted his gaze toward the window that overlooks the street before reaching over he poking the guy in the shoulder, ”Cab’s here.” He stated. He didn’t offer any other kind of words. The two of them were far too stubborn to listen to one another anyway.

As Dave knelt there, he was lost in thought. The guy was acting nice, although the silence must have meant that he had finally understood the circumstances. He found himself wondering how things would have gone if he had tried to accept the guy's kind acts, in the event that maybe he was the one person on earth that would ever tolerate him. His mind flashed to future hypothetical events. He and this guy could have hung out, gone to the movies, eat out, or just sit around and watch TV all day. Those thoughts were comforting and painful at the same time.
Even now, Dave wondered if he should say anything to that effect. He wanted to. He really did, a knot formed in his stomach and he found himself catching his breath, the words just wanting to break free. But you'd just be taking advantage of him. The thought rang clear and Dave felt a sense of right-ness with it. The guy didn't like him anyways, if Dave had tried to strike up some sort of friendship, the guy might have felt obligated to go along with it for courtesy's sake. Afterwards, every time Dave would try to see him, he would always be busy with something or other conveniently. No... it would never happen. Thoughts of friendship should remain in the few good dreams Dave ever had anymore.
The poke in the shoulder made him gasp and jump. He wasn't really used to people touching him, obviously. The sudden contact had nearly caused him to have a panic attack. He finally registered what the guy had told him and stood up, standing there awkwardly. He took out a slip of paper from his pocket and wrote some words on it before putting it on the counter.
"Here's my billing address if you have a specific amount of money you want. You can always let me know by contacting me there. Otherwise, I'll send over a check for money sometime next week." He didn't wait for the clerk's answer and instead stumbled over to where he remembered the door being. He stopped at the entrance. This was his last chance to say r do anything that might change something in his life. All he had to do was ask a short, simple question. The fear of rejection welled up inside of him at that moment, and instead, all he said was: "I'm sorry to have bothered you." and left. He saw a dim yellow object in front of him and approached it carefully, eventually getting himself into the backseat of the taxi before telling the driver his address and having the cab pull away.
I don't even know what I was doing there.

When he touched the visitor, the young man seemed to flinch and jump which caused Tenchi to jump away as a reaction. Apparently the guy didn't do well with touching or simply hadn't expected it. The clerk could empathize with that since he generally hated being touched by people. He simply wasn't used to it. When what he said registered with the young man he quickly jotted down an address and promised to send a check if Tenchi didn't set an allotted amount.
'He jus' don't get it' he thought to himself as the young man moved to the door. He apologized a final time before leaving the shop. "Thanks, come again" Tenchi said robotically like any other store clerk. Me moved to the door and locked it before turning the sign to close. He didn't feel like dealing with the shop anymore so he moved to the back room and continued with what he had been working on. Socializing was overrated anyway.
