Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.

Sakuya fidgeted as it seemed as if Phoebe wasn't satisfied with her original answer. She pressed on further. Oh well; she would just think of a way to answer the question more specifically. Soon enough, they arrived at the coffee shop, which seemed a little familiar, but perhaps Sakuya was just imagining things. She decided to order a small cup of the cafe's brewed coffee as well as a small raspberry muffin. Soon enough, Phoebe told her things about the perimeter going down, and people becoming willing to accept strange missions. "No," Sakuya sighed. "I've been doing that kind of thing even before the perimeter dropped. Mostly dealing with criminals. Dealing with cases that law enforcement either don't have the manpower for, or cases which are too risky for said law enforcement to handle that they might need a third party to do it for them." Sakuya was half serious. She was pretty sure the law enforcement could handle cases revolving underground members. They were probably just either deliberately shirking on it or they had to take care of other things.
Such as the perimeter.

Phoebe wondered whether the police would really engage the services of a mercenary and then it occurred to her that what Sakuya was might in fact be a private investigator or a bounty hunter who collaborated with the authorities. It might've been explained as the authorities response to reduced man-power, or internal problems within the force. Either way, it was very interesting. Perhaps she could surreptitiously ask Sakuya some questions about what the authorities were doing during this crisis...
"Wow, that sounds dangerous," she commented. "Aren't you afraid? How'd you come around to doing that sort of job? Oh, er, are you allowed to talk about it?"

Sakuya sighed. "I was willing to," she continued. "It's as simple as that. I fled to Mosaic City because I had issues. Where I came from, I... I don't remember exactly if I was suspended or expelled from school. It was due to several cases of severe assault I had committed on several guys. I'm pretty sure I had gotten dangerously close to committing homicide. Anyway, it's an underground thing. I'd rather not really talk about it much if I can help it." Sakuya sighed. She was already treading dangerous territory with divulging some of her secrets. She didn't really want to tell Phoebe that she was hired to murder criminals. It might be deduced anyway. Who knows.

Phoebe looked at her hands. She'd been very indiscreet about this and felt rather bad, so she tried to steer the conversation elsewhere. "Oh, I see. I'm sorry if I was prying too much."
She fumbled a little with her fingers. "Um, if it's any comfort... I think you're really brave to do that sort of work," she said. "I would never have the guts to do it. I'm a total scaredicat."
She sat back and shrugged. "I'm frightened of my own students sometimes. I'm only a sub teacher but sometimes I just can't face the kids, when I get to teach or have to counsel. Some of them are so intense and others are just balls of nerves since the perimeter dropped. I just don't know how to face them."

Sakuya shook her head as Phoebe apologized for possibly prying too much. That was fine. At least she knew her boundaries. "It's alright, Phoebe. Sometimes, curiosity gets the best of us. On top of that, I needed to be brave. It's the only way I could live with myself. After what happened to me those years ago," she said, lowering her head. The memories came back to her again. Soon, Phoebe shrugged and spoke of her own students, how she was afraid of them. She was a substitute teacher, huh? She didn't know how to handle them. "I see, so you're a substitute teacher? I can't say I would be an exemplary person in terms of providing advice there, but sometimes it's all about the mentality. You have to believe you're the expert; or you wouldn't be teaching in the first place. It's a teacher's responsibility to ensure their students have a fruitful learning experience, right?"

Phoebe blinked a little bit at Sakuya's insight. She was actually quite right, to be brutally honest. Phoebe had let her lack of confidence and nervousness get the best of her for quite a while. However, it was inevitable with what had happened to her back south. Getting out of that mess had taken a lot out of her.
"I... see," she said thoughtfully. "You might be right. It's just, I've lost confidence in myself lately," she huffed. "I'm working on it now, thankfully but it's an uphill battle. I've always been a bit of a scaredicat and some of my students and worse yet, my superiors are pretty intense people. There was a real mix up with the regular English teacher. He's still working regularly and at the moment it's all... well, they're mostly trying to figure out what to do with me. At the moment I'm sort of helping grade and writing reports every day. They also stuck me with counseling but that's not that bad. I get to see what's eating the kids more closely."
She paused to take a sip of her tea. "Uhm... actually, you look like you could use a good venting. Wanna... talk about what you just mentioned? What happened to you? I won't ask questions, I'll just listen to whatever you want to say."

Sakuya hadn't expected Phoebe to take her seriously, to be honest. It was just something she came up with on the spot. The human form would never be able to come up with something like that; it was mostly the Shadowform that waxed philosophical. Soon, Phoebe explained her situation, mentioning how she was a little bit of a 'scaredy-cat', in her words, anyway, and how her superiors were fairly intense. The academe was still full of crap, huh? Sakuya took another sip of her drink, and soon she was asked about what she wanted to say. She sighed.
My mom was pretty messed up, Sakuya sighed. "I mean... I don't really know what she expected to happen. She got paid by selling me off to other guys my age for a single night. So she would get filthy stinking rich while I had other boys attempt to experiment with their sexual fantasies, on me. I think I was... ...thirteen? Fourteen? Fifteen? I don't even remember anymore. It didn't matter what my mom did to try to make me feel better." I don't know what possessed her to think that was a good idea in the slightest. Sakuya finished, rapping her fingers on the table.

Phoebe didn't respond immediately. She looked awkward and embarrassed, mostly because she couldn't think of a suitable reply to what Sakuya told her. In fact, she had a hard time believing that altogether.
"I...I'm sorry to hear that," she heard herself say. "I... um..."
Her phone rang with a loud anime tune and Phoebe almost jumped out of her chair in fright. "Oh! Ah! Ah! I'm sorry! P-please give me a moment!"
It was a call from work, she'd set that particular tune for Hisako-san's business line. She picked up and immediately Hisako's panicky voice came through.
"Ah! Hisako-san, please calm down..."
There was a problem with the last delivery; a pack of books was missing and she had confirmed it was on the truck bound for a different bookstore. Due to a complication with the truck's schedule the delivery would be postponed until Monday, and that would be bad for business as several people had pre-purchased this particular book. So Hisako wanted her to nip over to the other bookstore and intercept the truck. She'd be able to pick up the books and bring them to Shakespeare & Co. alone. But she had to get going immediately if she hoped to catch up to the truck in her car.
"Uh-huh. Yes. I understand. Yes, I got it. Don't worry."
She hung up and looked at Sakuya guiltily. "I'm terribly sorry but I need to go. This is job related and they're depending on me."
She fumbled in her purse for money to pay for her drink. "Um... if... if you'd like to talk to me again, please come by Shakespeare & Co. any time you like. I'm sorry for taking off like this."
She got up and grabbed her bag, then made a mad dash for the parking lot.
