Brynhild could not hide the giant smile on her face. As a rule all premodern weapons made her happy. The methodology behind each one always sounded interesting. She remembered hearing about a sword like this, but never had the pleasure of seeing one in person. Kaitou's monologue gave the impression that his katana was fairly common in his own country (at least, she assumed he came from the same place. Probably shouldn't.) With overly sharp blades and less armour, military battle must have been fairly short.
She had to agree that his measured swings were effective, more so than the swords she briefly practiced with. All of those weapons had to be fully drawn before slashing. The boy stopped talking, which signaled the start of her turn to respond.
“Then it's a good thing we're more intelligent.” The urge to fix what he said, and leave herself out of the human category got suppressed. She already fell for the trap last week. Not about to make that mistake again.
“We seem to have the exact opposite approach. Your attacks are more efficient; I care less about avoiding damage. The katana looks faster but my range is longer. Both of us rush into melee range, which doesn't. . .” She distractedly started envisioning the two of the trying to fight the same Shadow. It felt very claustrophobic, as if they barely had enough room to breathe, let alone move. Dream Kaitou jumped in to slash after she started thrusting and he got stab—
Striking a human, regardless of being an accident and imaginary, disgusted her. A pretend warrior code dealt with this, but there was an shorter explanation. An Anti-Shadow Unit had very few logical reasons for hitting anything besides Shadowsor Demons. On a regular outing he would be safe, but if she blacked out again. . .
Better to be safe than sorry.
There had been something else she wanted to say, but couldn't remember the rest of the sentence. Wasn't worth taking up more time to think. Brynhild just decided to move on to the end. “We shouldn't each be in the front, for safety reasons. Either switch places halfway through or I'll try to shoot from behind.”
