They're late
The Shadow deftly entered the Museum, tail curled around his waist like a belt while holding his cane behind him like a divining rod. The slitted pupil contained within the crown glanced up at him, as if wondering what the heck it's master was doing. In truth, he wasn't exactly sure himself. A few hours ago a pair of siblings that couldn't have been more than fifteen years old each came to his office and demanded that he hand over ¥600,000. Normally he would have sent such noisy brats away, but Isaac had been overcome by a strange mood as of late. Instead of immediately denying their request, he decided to hear them out. Their father had grown deathly ill, but the hospital wasn't willing to provide treatment to just anyone after the barrier went up. After all, their supplies were limited and no new shipments would be coming any time soon. If they had the money, however, they were certain that the hospital would save their father.
So, Isaac gave them a relatively simple task to complete to earn the money. There was a First-Class Hero's Medal being kept at the local museum, donated by the family of the soldier that had earned the honor once he passed away. If they broke into the museum, stole the medal, and returned it to him; then he would give them the amount they requested. But hours had passed, and he'd seen the desperation in the children's faces. Isaac was their last hope, and they wouldn't just run away from something like this- no, they would see it through to the end. True enough, it wasn't long before he came across their lifeless bodies in the military exhibit's pavilion. The boy and girl were laying beside each other near the center of the room, their bodies curved towards each other, almost forming a heart if one were to look closely enough. The boy's hand was clutched in a death grip and, after a bit of coaxing from the Shadow, he managed to obtain the item that the children had given so much to give- the Hero's Medal. The sight of it brought a slight smirk to Isaac's face.
He was surprised that they managed to actually find the item. How many Shadows would they have had to defeat or evade in order to get to this point? Neither was a User- they got this far on sheer grit and determination. But sadly, that just wasn't enough. Isaac let out a little sigh as he threw the medal between the corpses. After all, he had no real use for it for anymore. The children made it half way- but they hadn't earned half the money. No, Isaac's tests were pass or fail and they certainly hadn't passed. What a shame... but on the other hand, without anyone left to pay for his treatment, their father would be reunited with them soon enough. The Shadow tapped the ground loudly with his cane, letting his weight rest on it while using his free hand to pull out a pocket watch to check the time, seemingly unconcerned with the close proximity of the dead children.
