Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
Brynhild hated this place. The enemies here were a lot stronger than stronger than she expected. Memories of the last visit down here continued to bother her, even though it happened over a week ago. Every time she thought about returning, some instinct convinced her to stay away. No one ordered her to keep training in the sewers. She could go back to the museum with the easy to kill monsters, but that wasn't about to happen.
No, tonight was all about getting rid of this negative feeling. Being afraid of shadows would eventually get in the way. Any future hesitation might get a human killed. The idea of failing to save everyone motivated Brynhild to get over her problem as soon as possible.
She may not have grown stronger in the past few days, but for the first time she had real armour. The shield recovered during the last full moon needed to be tested. If the fight went smoothly, the new gear would have to be thanked (no matter how awkward that sounded.)
The shadows were getting lazier as time went on. This one today even lounged around on some expensive furniture, not even paying much attention. How did they even get that down here? Well, Brynhild wasn't about to ruin a tactical advantage in order to be fair. She vaguely pointed in the shadow's general direction, commanding Berserker to strike. The summon spirit formed his own harpoon out of ice before throwing it at the shadow. His attack clearly landed, but had no effect.
“Tch.” The powers that be were trying to teach her a lesson. During the last several battles, most of her energy was spent summoning the Persona over and over. Berserker certainly made life easier, but she had been relying on his power a little too much. Spell casting was neither of their specialties. The two of them were warriors, masters of weaponry, and occasionally needed to practice without magic. Otherwise, she'd start to get rusty and die fighting a weak opponent.
Running at her typical speed ended up being harder than usual. Dealing with the added weight of the armor nearly threw her off balance. The sofa-riding female shadow released a blast of snow, which prompted Brynhild to raise her shield in defense. Life support indicated that the coldness dealt some internal damage, but not as much as she expected. Despite knowing how to use the element, she had no inherent resistance to ice. This new equipment performed much better than she expected. Not using any armour earlier had been a huge mistake.
“I'll thank you properly once we've settled this, friend, but for now. . .” Moving her hand closer to the bottom of the shaft, Brynhild reached the weapon far enough to impale the shadow. The entire couch recoiled in pain as the woman on top of it released a blast of ice. Once more Bryn protected herself, arrogantly ignoring the pain. Just because it didn't hurt as badly as it used to doesn't make it less deadly.
The two traded blows several times in a similar pattern. The robot girl found it hard to take the rest of the battle seriously. It didn't matter. This shadow couldn't do enough damage to win fast enough. As long as she stuck to the rhythm of attacking after each block, this dance would end with her victory. One on one encounters like this were her specialty.
After an additional four rounds the shadow did, in fact, evaporate. Immediately Brynhild wanted another target and wished that more had shown up earlier. Having a moment to calm down helped her notice the alarm warning that she'd exhausted more than half her energy. Hunting further down the sewer should be avoided, for now. The smarter plan would be to go home for the night and return in the morning. Imitating a sigh, she left to find her way out of here.
