Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
Battles usually got her excited, but today she lacked her typical enthusiasm. The last few practice sessions vaguely reminded her of those days at the lab. They were starting to feel pointless. Just like back then, any growth happened at a slow, consistent pace. Even though she barely seemed any stronger, Brynhild knew that as long as she kept fighting, the minor improvements would lead to a major change. It just got harder to stay positive as time went on.
The environment certainly didn't help improve her mood. She had made so many trips to these sewers, the whole process started to feel a little repetitive. Clearing this place out somehow became a personal mission, but it didn't have to be the only option. A change of scenery every once and a while could be healthier than staying here the whole time.
Yes, after another few rounds she might have to go fight cars or something.
Only one enemy to deal with today. This looked like a good time to bring back some of her old rules of fighting: ignore what the enemy looks like. As Brynhild ran towards the Filth Seeker, the shadow began charging up an attack. She used her spear to jab at it's center, which didn't seem to bother it too much. It continued building up strength for a spell it would (ideally) never get to use. It just sat around and gave her time to poke away multiple times.
Eventually the Shadow quit his repetition only to charge up with some new aura. The blue glow surrounding him alternated with the previous technique's red in an ominous manner. Okay, any sort of power up usually meant bad news for the receiving party. This battle had to end right now. Her Persona could deal more damage per hit, so Brynhild called out to the Berserker. They didn't have time to use the new weapon of the day—his invisible foot kicked the Shadow in the eye.
The Filthy one did not appreciate the damage and finally started casting his own attack. A dark orb floated in front of his face, growing in size until it surpassed her height. It shot out so fast, Brynhild had just enough time to raise her shield before it struck.
Oh boy. Without a doubt, this had to be the worst pain she'd ever suffered through. Previous moments of almost dying had the damage spread throughout multiple attacks. Being hit several time in a row made it easier to endure. This felt comparable to losing her right arm, an event mostly forgotten in order to stay sane. At least this time she remained in one piece, although her shield arm seemed unresponsive for now.
“Berserker” she summoned, nervousness in her voice, hoping that the Shadows death would calm her down. Said shadow already started up his charging routine for round two. Her Persona created a giant axe and sliced through the shadows body. Not enough. A blade of ice shot up from the ground and impaled the Filth Seeker, finally killing him.
That was it for today. She really had to find somewhere else to practice. Half the time these sewers were too challenging. The thrill of combat couldn't be properly enjoyed when she was this close to death.
