Name: Pyxis, formerly Unit #14
Age: 3. Appearance is that of a girl in her late teens.
Date of Birth: Officially recognizes November 20 as her birthday.
Birthplace: Unknown. Claims, when asked, to have been born in Greece, believing that to be the only place where her name would be close to normal.
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Uhhhhh (Panromantic)
Face Claim: VIVIT - Seihou Project
Appearance:
Height: 5'7"
Distinguishing Features: Although covered with an artificial skin that looks realistic except under very close inspection, there are still telltale signs that Pyxis is mechanical. Most notably, her shoulder and hip joints are left open for full range of motion, forcing her to wear clothing that covers both when undercover. Her hands, meanwhile, are covered instead in a casing that looks to others like particularly thick gloves and serves to conceal built-in weapons.
Class: Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon
Arcana: XV - The Devil
Occupation: Ordinary Student and Most Definitely Not A Tactical Weapon
Weapons and Proficiencies (Optional): Proficient with built-in automatic firearms. Due to a rushed deployment she is currently only equipped with low-level weapons. They deal Pierce damage.
Personality: If one doesn't already know of Pyxis's true nature, they would have a hard time guessing from the way she acted that she was a robot. Having developed a 'self' unusually fast for an Anti-Shadow Weapon, she acts very human-like in most situations: animated, enthusiastic about things she has an interest in, prone to teasing others when appropriate, and occasionally using rather...colorful language. Believed by her handlers to have been picked up from playing games online, Pyxis has learned quite a few swears and similarly rude phrases. And while she's filtered many of them out of her own language, that hasn't stopped her from adopting some of the rest when appropriate. On top of this she has called a partner for her current mission out on an anime obsession, loudly and sarcastically wondered how she could possibly have trouble boarding a plane, gotten really excited over the prospect of visiting a game store, and successfully carried on a conversation about story elements, all to the surprise and amazement of veteran persona users who were expecting 'robot' to extend to her behavior. She does have a tendency to unconsciously slip into what she has called 'robospeak' on occasion, and usually tries to just play it off.
On top of all of this, she is very curious. In fact, curiosity may well be her defining trait. It was curiosity about an unexpected element in an early test (one introduced on a whim, no less) that is believed to have led her to developing such an advanced personality so quickly. It was curiosity that led to her interest in video games, her readiness to interact with humans on a human level, and her desire to learn about things that were unfamiliar to her. But, being a machine built, programmed, and 'raised' by scientists, curiosity is also her most dangerous trait. For it is also curiosity that leads her to come up with ideas that no sane human would go through with or find reasonable, and instead see the merits of them. She still has her orders, and will act on them, but when, say, she becomes curious about how making shadows' existence widely known would affect them, those orders are the only thing holding her back.
While she is still capable of keeping this up while fighting shadows, the moment she enters combat mode her normal personality, interests, and anything else takes a back seat. True to the name of Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon, that is still her number one mission and she will devote any and all necessary resources toward accomplishing it. If it interferes with that, it goes, at least until the threat has been elimitated. Then, once it has, she can go back to normal as though nothing ever happened.
And yes, she really, really likes video games.
Likes: Video games, humans, unfamiliar things, entertaining reactions
Dislikes: Rigorous schedules, confinement, internet speak, weapon malfunctions
History: The nature of an Anti-Shadow Weapon is, by definition, paradoxical. While their body is mechanical, they are deliberately given a heart and made to develop an ego, causing them to perceive themselves as living. Even though most are aware that they are, ultimately, machines, to treat them solely as such denies them the existence they are intended to grow into. Unfortunately, it took their developers several generations of Anti-Shadow Weapon before they came to this same realization. Coupled with the practice of giving each subsequent generation of Anti-Shadow Weapon the memories of past generations, and any recent creation is plagued by memories of battles against weapons of the same model. Needless to say, most learn to shut those memories out early on, and access them only when absolutely necessary. The other memories primarily consist of the gradual process of learning to interact with others and developing an ego. Pyxis would note, on later review, that in many cases it was a process that could take days, weeks, or even months before any progress was made at all. But in her case, it started on the day she first awakened.
She recalls that her first 'thoughts', if they could be called such, were a string of commands and responses not unlike that of an ordinary machine. Most of them were ordinary diagnostics and expected responses to outside stimuli, but one in particular caused concern for the researchers working on her. Before she awakened, several automatic tests were run on her motor functions. This was normal, and allowed the researchers to jump straight into testing once a unit awakened. But in the case of Unit #14, who would eventually be given the designation of Pyxis, the results of several of those tests had failed to record, forcing the researchers to perform them after the unit awakened. #14 went through the tests as though they were a natural routine, maintaining the mechanical stream of consciousness all the way until the end. It wasn't until the last of these, dealing with the strength of her grip, when anything changed. After running through a few normal measures, one of the researchers got an idea and ran out of the room. When he returned, he held a device in his hands that looked like a gray brick with buttons on it. "Try breaking this," he said, handing the device to her. She tried to crush it in her hand, but without removing any limiters on her strength it was impossible to break the device. While this 'test' was deemed useless by the other researchers, it left #14 with one recurring element in her stream of commands and responses.
Finally, at the beginning of that day's 'free time', she approached the researcher and managed to put words to that recurring element. A simple question. "What was that?" The researcher laughed, and explained that it was an old game system with a long history of surviving abuse, from simply being dropped to surviving a bomb blast. He then demonstrated how it worked, playing a game for #14 to see. After awhile, #14 asked to try it herself and soon found herself shooting up alien monsters on a world with lava-filled caverns. She did poorly at it, owing in part to the primitive controls and horrendous display, but still found herself enjoying it enough to continue playing until it was time to return.
After that, #14's development continued normally, if at an accelerated rate. The very human-like trait of curiosity persisted, with her beginning to use every means at her disposal, be it looking things up in a database or simply asking the researchers or other units of her model, about everything she encountered. She very quickly began to develop a sense of self, which by itself was expected but not at her rate of progress. The researchers could only guess at the cause of this -- the Plume of Dusk was effectively a black box, after all -- but her continued interest in video games seemed to be helping it along, so it was encouraged within reason. Meanwhile, her combat prowess proved to be exceptional, and within a few months she was deemed ready for the next step. She was given a name, Pyxis, and after some preparation led to a test chamber she had never seen before, deep within the bowels of the facility and under heavy guard from older models of Anti-Shadow Weapon. In a life or death, trial-by-fire test, she was pitted against several captured shadows. She took down a few of them on combat prowess alone, but their numbers and unnatural abilities began to overwhelm her. A will to survive far above that of a normal machine took over (after all, there were still so many games she hadn't played), and her 'other self' manifested, the persona Pandora. With Pandora allowing Pyxis to match the shadows' unnatural abilities with her own, she turned the tide in the fight and defeated the remaining shadows. In the aftermath of the trial, Pyxis was deemed ready for deployment.
Of course, actual deployment took much longer. In the mean time, Pyxis was still subjected to training of a sort, although among routine combat tests to ensure that she was always in top condition her handlers took interest in how far her personality had developed and encouraged it to develop further. With the strict orders that she was never to reveal her true nature or anything about the facility where she was developed and still lived, she was allowed to interact with other people through the internet and occasionally in the real world. In doing so she developed a rather...colorful personality, and soon reached the point where barring a few accidental slips into what she herself came to call 'robospeak' most people talking to her had no reason to suspect that she was anything but normal. And of course, during her (strictly regulated) free time she was allowed to play all the games she wanted. In addition, while her handlers insisted all she needed to worry about with regards to shadows was how to defeat them, she tried to learn more about the shadows she was expected to fight in the future. Her handlers would only tell her so much, leading her to believe that she would have to learn more on her own when the time finally came.
Finally, however, the time came for her first deployment. Her handlers and a couple veteran persona-users briefed Pyxis on her mission: she would be joining one of several teams tied to a group they referred to only by non-indicative names like 'Special Circumstances' to investigate an anomaly on the coast of China that was suspected to be the work of shadow activity. One of the veterans explained that the anomaly was a barrier of sorts that had completely cut off the city inside, Mosaic City, from the outside world. Once the explanations and an unexpected bit of snark from Pyxis (which only took the veterans who had never met her by surprise) were concluded, Pyxis was loaded up in a stasis container for transport. The last thing she heard before everything went dark was a reminder to keep her nature and relation to the organization a secret unless absolutely necessary.
When she awoke again, she was just outside the affected area. Her two 'partners' were there to meet and brief her, although they claimed that if the situation called for it, they would separate once inside. She was briefed on the details of the situation: a team which had arrived earlier had found a way inside through old tunnels, and had confirmed that contact was impossible beyond a certain distance inside the barrier. Before contact was completely cut off though, they reported that Mosaic City remained inside, although the outskirts and most of the west side of the city were in ruins and infested with shadows. Reports from another Anti-Shadow Weapon scouting ahead suggested that there was a safe zone inside the shadow-infested area, which would be their destination. Once there, they would look for survivors first, then start working on a way to bring down the barricade. Pyxis was then given a list of people she could reveal her nature and affiliation to, including the members of other teams investigating the anomaly for the organization and at least one member who had been trapped inside. After a reminder that she was to keep everything a secret from anyone she met not on that list (assuming there was anyone left inside), Pyxis asked a dangerous question that momentarily stunned her 'partners' into silence.
"If shadows are manifestations of unwanted and repressed thoughts, what would happen if everyone knew what was going on? Would this place go back to normal?"
Though they were unable to provide an adequate answer, her partners still insisted that secrecy was necessary. Pyxis accepted this for the moment, confirmed her orders, and stored the idea for later consideration as an extreme measure. Then, they made their way through the tunnel, fighting through waves of shadows to get inside. The fight continued almost nonstop through the ruins of West Mosaic until they reached another abandoned tunnel, this one a subway tunnel that led into the safe zone in the middle of the affected area, which they confirmed to be full of plenty of survivors living life as normal and for the most part unaware of the actual situation beyond the fact that they were blockaded in. From there, the team split up, settled in, and began their mission.

Appearance: Elpis appears as a young woman, much more human-looking than Pandora, but still bearing tell-tale signs of artificiality: namely, obviously mechanical hands and eyes. She wears a white dress woven from a material appearing similar to fiber optic strands, with scattered specks of light appearing all over its surface. Her hair appears to be made of the same material and lights up at the tips. In one hand, she carries a boquet of flowers. She is standing in the ornate cylindrical box for which Pyxis is named, the same one that her previous Persona carried, and pushes aside the lid to rise out of it when summoned. Elpis herself rarely attacks opponents. Rather, when attacking, black shadows rise out of the box around her and manifest in various ways.
Persona Lore: The last spirit that remained trapped in Pandora's Box when the lid was closed. Commonly believed to be "hope", but could also be interpreted as "expectation." Believed to be an extension to suffering and misfortune, Elpis represents a reliance on the idea that things will eventually get better more so than hope itself.

{Old Persona Data}Persona: Pandora
Appearance: Rather than the classical image of Pandora, Pyxis's persona bears the image of a more modern take on the concept of an artificial human. She bears the figure of a young human woman, but her body is covered in skin-tight, segmented metal plates. The plates are, as could be expected, silver in color and reflective (or, as Pyxis puts it, "shiny"). Between these segments are gaps through which only a faint, yellow-green light is visible. A smooth metal helmet covers the back and sides of her head, but does not completely obscure elbow-length, silvery hair. In her hands, Pandora holds Pyxis's namesake: a cylindrical box with a removable lid, covered in intricate but barely visible designs. When using skills, the box does one of two things depending on the skill: either the designs on its surface glow the same yellow-green light as the gaps in Pandora's 'shell', revealing pictoral depictions of the gods that contributed to the girl's creation, or the lid slides open and ghastly hands emerge from within.
Persona Lore: An artificial human woman created soon after the dawn of man. She was molded from earth and given seductive gifts by the gods, then granted a jar that she was told never to open. But among the gifts the gods gave her was curiosity, which drove her to open the jar anyway and in doing so unleashed all the evil contained within onto the world. Upon seeing what she had done she tried to close it, but its contents had already escaped and only hope remained inside.
