Name: Christopher C. Jackson, a.k.a. CJ
Age: 27
Date of Birth: March 25th 1988
Birthplace: Brisbane, Australia
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual, tends towards males
Face Claim: Ryoutarou Dojima from Persona 4
Appearance: CJ is not tall enough to have any sort of imposing presence. In fact, he's just 5'8" and not particularly bulky or muscular. The best way to describe his looks is "charmingly scruffy." He let himself go a bit appearance-wise during his prolonged stay in Mosaic City. His hair is unkempt and he usually sports a 5 o'clock shadow. One last feature to note is his disarming smile, which makes people go from "I wanna shoot him" to "Aww, lookit dat face! I can't shoot that!"
Class: Persona-user
Arcana: Wheel of Fortune.
Occupation: Investigative Journalist for a Tabloid/News Site
Weapons and Proficiencies: Police Baton (Strike type)
While he prefers to avoid violence, CJ has nevertheless become proficient in blunt force instruments. "When push comes to shove," he says, "Pain is a good substitute to talking people out of beating me up, and ya can't get a better bloody pain-giver than a stick, or a cricket bat, or a police baton. Knives and swords aren't deterrents; they just escalate fights."
Personality: CJ is quite charismatic and an expert in the art of persuasion. He can read others from physical tells (hand gestures, stance, even the way they dress) as well as verbal cues, and figure out the right thing to say. To that end, most people think of him as "the bloke that gets me" or "that bloke I can trust" or whatever he wants them to think of him. Those who get to know him understand that he is far more than just a likeable or trustworthy bloke. He's genuinely kind and empathetic, and eternally driven by the pursuit of truth.
While CJ does put rational decision-making over emotional urges, he is often far too brave for his own good. He ends up in situations where he's in over his head, and has to rely on calm and collected decision-making to get out of it in one piece.
Likes: Sushi, British comedy, Cricket, Performance Cars
Dislikes: Liars (the irony is not lost on him), A bad Internet connection, Getting Skyped by Mother (always happens at the least opportune moment), Game Journalists (not really journalists, are they), his job.
History: Christopher C. Jackson was born in Brisbane, Australia. His mother is Australian and his father is Greek Cypriot. Due to his father's job (and homesickness) they all moved to Cyprus when he was only two years old. It was there, in the capital of Nicosia, that he was raised, along with his older sister. His family was always quite wealthy, so CJ received the best primary and secondary education money could buy, and came out with top grades in many of his lessons. Additionally, he was raised in a bilingual environment, and was fluently speaking both English and Greek (with his parents' Aussie and Cypriot accents, respectively) by the time he finished primary school.
Despite his family's wealth, he was never spoiled. CJ was always taught that hard work pays off in the future, and that he should be careful with his money. His father certainly stressed the point enough.
"Son," he told him, "If I didn't work hard and put my money in the right places, you wouldn't have half of what you have now."
His father was the owner of an investment firm, and he made a living out of investing money in the right places. CJ did admire his dad, even if investing sounded like a boring job to him when he was young.
As he grew older, CJ realised something was not right. Most kids at school gave him a wide berth, and some of the boys that he was warned to avoid, whose parents were rumoured to be criminals, were quick to become friends with him. CJ grew more suspicious of where his family's money came from, especially when fifteen minutes on Google told him that his father was making more money than an investment firm owner should. It wasn't until he was eighteen that his father confirmed his suspicions: the family's gains were ill-gotten. His father ran several gambling dens, using his investment firm as a front. His initial investments were not very good, it seemed, and the gambling dens were a way to make money and repay the debts of the firm itself. CJ began to wonder how his father had kept this a secret from the family for so long, since neither his sister nor his mother knew. And then his father dropped a bombshell: he wanted CJ to take charge of the investment firm (and the gambling dens) right after college.
The decision CJ made that day defined him for the rest of his life. His father had lied to him all his life, all about the hard work and the right investments and all that. CJ hated the man, and wanted nothing to do with his operations. And yet, he accepted. His father was pleased as peach. CJ pretended to be pleased as well. His father let him into more and more of the operation. CJ observed patiently as his father explained the inner workings of the organization, where the money came from, how the gambling dens worked, until by the time he was 19, he was given full access to his father's files. That is when CJ set his plan in motion: he would take all this to the police, and he would make sure his father and anyone associated with him served time for their lives of crime.
That same day CJ had gone to the police was the day when his father would suffer karmic retribution for his double life. One of the people his gambling dens had robbed blind was the son of the most influential gangster in Cyprus, and he wanted his half-a-million Euros back. To that end, the gangster had taken CJ's family captive. They were threatening to kill his mother when the police arrived to arrest the father. It was the first time fortune had smiled upon CJ, for if he hadn't gone to the police that day, he would have been unable to prevent whatever the gangsters would have done to his family.
CJ had seen first-hand what a lie can do to people, and the consequences of exposing a lie were soon to follow. The lie itself had placed his innocent mother and sister in peril and traumatised them in the process. Exposing it took away a good amount of his family's wealth, and in his last few months in secondary education he was ostracised as a "snitch" by the people he was once friends with. In fact, pretty much everyone's attitude towards him worsened, and it became clear to CJ that neither his family nor anyone in his social circle valued the truth as much as he did. He made the decision to move back to Australia, on his own, to finish his education.
CJ graduated from a top university in Brisbane with a degree in Psychology, specialising in body language and intonation, and a minor in Investigative Journalism. He wanted to work for a highly respected newspaper, where he could write about the truth and share it with the world. However, he had graduated at a bad time, as a great financial crisis had hit Australia, and unemployment was at an all-time high. In the end, he was lucky enough to find a job in a tabloid that was transitioning into an international news blog, where he quickly discovered that newspapers only valued the truth if it could sell. He was stuck writing about celebrity news, and the job quickly drained all enthusiasm from him. He was figuratively in dreary autopilot when he was sent to Mosaic City to interview some local celebrity whose name he never bothered to memorise.
Soon after CJ arrived in Mosaic City, the blockade and "radiation leak" happened. Unable to get in contact with his work, and unable to leave the city, he simply stayed in his hotel, waiting for the time when he could leave and go back to Australia. He started taking less and less care of himself over time, and it took the hotel's bartender lashing out in frustration to get him to realise what he was doing wrong. That's when CJ made his second life-altering decision: he would investigate the so-called radiation leak and find out the real reason behind the blockade. With his trusty tablet safely tucked away in his long coat, and a cheap Geiger counter he had bought from a local shop, he set off towards the outer circle.
A sense of dread, and a gut feeling that he had bit more than he could chew, hit him when he saw what the outer circle looked like. It was strange, he realized, that despite the toxic-looking atmosphere, the air was perfectly breathable, and his tatty Geiger counter showed nothing but background radiation. The radiation leak was an obvious lie, but why? What could be so bad that the military, if they were really the military, would want to cover up with a radiation leak story? And why were the buildings in such disrepair? Arming himself with a piece of rebar, CJ ventured further into the outer circle, hoping to find an answer to his questions.
His trespass did not go unnoticed for long. Soon he was attacked by Shadows. CJ tried to talk them out of a fight, but to no avail. He tried to smack them with his makeshift weapon, but one of the Shadows bit the rusty rebar piece apart. He started to panic, thinking that this would be his end, and he would never find out the truth. He thought his life would end there and then. Fortune smiled upon him again, as a voice, regal and clear as a bell, echoed in his head with the words: "I am thou. Thou art I…"
He uttered a word, one that he had used before, but never with such power behind it, as if by instinct: "Persona"
And that is when Uroboros Ophis materialized in front of him. The winged tail-devouring snake creature systematically dispatched the shadows, alternating between freezing them solid and dive-bombing them. Uroboros was hit a few times in the battle, and CJ was surprised that he felt each and every hit as if he himself was struck. With the battle over, Uroboros slowly dissipated until all that was left was a glowing blue tarot-like card. It descended into CJ's hand, and then disappeared entirely.
