Dave's footsteps echoed loudly through the tunnel. He had returned again to face off against these creatures. He supposed it was lucky that Jonathan had told him about the tunnel in the first place. After he had learned from the boy that the subway tunnels were filled with Shadows, he had immediately gone in search. He had nearly been killed in the process. This time, he was much more confident in his skill. He had managed to consistently use his Persona the time before, and he could feel that its power had grown.
He had been busy during the day, after his interview with the Student Council President, his classes seemed to fly by. He had gone to work, which was as uneventful as usual before going home and preparing for his next trip. He wore basic workout clothes this time. Some comfortable sweatpants and a white t-shirt covered with black South Face jacket. He had managed to pick up a new weapon somewhere along the line between his first and current trip. On his feet, instead of conventional shoes, he wore specialized metal boots. On them were a number of small blades, perfect for flesh-cutting or... shadow cutting I guess. They made a small clanking noise with each step. He also produced his new taser knuckles. He had picked these up from some low-bit punk off the street. They weren't that expensive. His tips from work covered the cost. After he had made sure they worked, he quickly opted to switch out his cheap brass knuckles for these new ones.
Finally, he clicked on his new pocket flashlight. He had always seen them used in that Quiet Slope video game franchise as the protagonist ran through the foggy town and decrepit buildings, but he'd never thought he would have to use them himself. He tucked the flashlight into his front jacket pocket, where it easily illuminated the tunnel in front of him.
It was night out at this time. Now that he was getting inducted for trial in the Student Council, he knew he couldn't be spotted breaking the quarantine. Coming at night lowered the risk of him being spotted and made it easier to lug around the weapons. This came at the cost of not being able to see as well, but it was a risk he felt confident enough to take. When he had fought before, he didn't know what he was doing. The fact that shadows could resist certain elements and were weak to others was completely unknown to him. He didn't even know how to summon his persona at that time. He did now, and he was prepared to approach the fight more strategically than last time.
He pulled out his Evoker. The other boy, Jonathan, didn't seem to have needed one. When they had crossed paths, Jonathan had brought forth some kind of floating card. He hadn't mentioned gun-devices or anything of that sort. Dave himself had tried to bring out his own card, but was unable to. There has to be a reason why some of us need and evoker and some don't. Unless it's some sort of stupid god controlling our lives. The existence of other Persona users was now definite. If it wasn't just one person, it was definitely more than two. The fact was, Dave was unsure of how to determine who was and wasn't a persona user.
They likely wouldn't be as brazen as Jonathan and flash around their persona card like he had or, even worse, started swinging around an Evoker. Unless these aren't the only ways to summon a Persona. It was definitely possible. Dave didn't know enough about the situation to resolutely determine that one could only summon a persona through the card method or gun method. There might be different types of Evokers, like a knife to slit your own throat with, or an umbrella to twirl. Maybe not that. He grinned slightly at the thought of some awkward geisha girl twirling a floral umbrella to summon monsters.
He refocused his attention. He was beginning to become lost in thought. A surprise attack would have been seriously effective if it had occurred during those few minutes he wasn't paying attention.
