Name: Kaitou Nagano (永野 怪冬, Nagano Kaitō)
Age: Twenty-two
Date of Birth: October 27th
Birthplace: Shibuya, Japan
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation:Very sexual Demisexual
Face Claim: Misaki Yata from K
Appearance:
Height: 5'10''
Distinguishing Features: His eyes are yellow and shine uncannily like a Shadow's. Neat, but otherwise meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Small scars from cuts and stab wounds are scattered across his arms and chest, though most are difficult to see if you're not looking for them. Those came from his training in various sword arts. There are three deep, jagged slash marks running diagonally from Kaitou's left collar down to his stomach-- a gift given to him by the first Shadow he encountered.
As far as general attire goes, Kaitou doesn't wear anything particularly flashy or eye-catching. Comfortable jeans, loose fitting t-shirts and sturdy sneakers do the job well enough. If it's cold, he'll throw on a denim jacket or something thicker for the winter months. However, when conducting business deals (or if caught on a rare date), the man wears silky, custom-tailored suits, most of them cream-colored or white. It's either rags or riches with this guy-- there's little in between. Besides the clothes on his back, Kaitou doesn't drag too much around with him-- his sword bag tends to carry all of his necessities. That is, it holds his sword and the cleaning tools for his sword. And maybe a newspaper.
If you'd like to get a kick out of seeing the typically serious man wearing something silly, look for him when he's at work at the restaurant in Mimoza Corner. He decks himself out in the full chef outfit, toque and all!
Class: Civilian
Arcana: XVI - The Tower
Occupation: Kaitou is the heir to the Nagano Group, a company that researches technology to create new weaponry for the government's use. He works as a chef at the karaoke restaurant in Mimoza Corner and attends classes at university when he feels like it.
Weapons and Proficiencies: The brunette's most prized possession is a katana forged in the 19th century-- a family heirloom that has been passed down from one Nagano to the next. (Slash)
Additionally, Kaitou has a year's worth of karate experience and several from getting into fights on the streets and at school. He's capable enough with his fists to fend off attackers. (Strike)
Personality: Kaitou tries to keep a neutral expression at all times, but he's somewhat impatient and quick to anger if you know how to push his buttons. Otherwise, he's fairly pleasant to speak to once you get past his knack for sarcasm. Kaitou enjoys making friends when he can, and is extremely loyal to them. He's loud, brash, and particularly snarky when in their company, and can sometimes come off as a bit insensitive with his bullying. However, he is dependable and always keeps his promises. Loyalty and honor are principles that he holds in high regard, and so he cannot stand being around traitors or those with weak willpower.
One will also find that the brunette is cultured, intelligent, and even disciplined (to an extent). As the heir to the illustrious Nagano Group, it was ensured that his education was top-tier and that he would be trained to run the company by the time he was twenty. Though he was often suspended for getting into fights when he was younger, he never dropped a grade and graduated from high school at the top of his class (though some speculate it was the influence of his family's name that kept Kaitou from being expelled on multiple occasions, but that's just speculation). Kaitou has proven his intelligence and resourcefulness on several occasions, whether it's been to pull a victory out of a nigh-impossible fight or to negotiate a business deal in his father's place.
Kaitou's softer side shines when he's at home. He grew up without a mother, and his father was terrible at cooking. Though there were maids at home to handle most of the domestic chores, he wound up learning how to handle the house on his own and found a hobby in cooking. More often than not, he'll end up making oversized bentos for his friends, so consider yourself lucky if you're one of them! Kaitou is also fond of children, who tend to gravitate towards him despite his rough appearance.
Despite his status as a wealthy man, Kaitou doesn't show the typical signs of those raised with a silver spoon in their mouth. He rarely brings up his status as the Nagano Group's heir in conversation, and is quite the spendthrift-- he'd rather cook stew for dinner than sit through a long and boring meal at a prestigious restaurant. His social incompatibility with others of the upper echelon seems to be a hereditary quirk-- his father was equally rowdy and improper when he was younger.
Though Kaitou appears to be very mature and capable, he possesses childish tendencies that indicate he hasn't quite transitioned into the world of adulthood. He's stubborn to the point of bull-headed, somewhat selfish at times, and shirks his responsibilities when he feels too pressured by those around him. In truth, he is afraid to face his future and what is has in store for him. He doesn't think he's ready to face the world, and would sooner shy away from his destiny rather than tackle it head on. When his friends start talking about their own futures, he often falls silent and puts on a sullen expression. Kaitou is perfectly aware that the world is continuing to move on without him and that he will eventually have to grow up, he's simply... afraid.

History: Born to parents Daisuke and Chiaki, Kaitou was set to live a comfortable life from the start. His father was the fourth president of the Nagano Group, a weapons provider with strong ties to the Japanese military. Long story short, they were loaded, and lived in relative luxury in a traditional mansion in the Shibuya ward of Japan. Unfortunately, Chiaki did not have a strong constitution, and giving birth to Kaitou was too much for the young mother's body to handle. Though she was blessed to see her son come into the world, she passed on not long after.
The Nagano estate was primarily inhabited by three men: Kaitou, Daisuke, and Kaitou's grandfather Gennosuke. House servants also lived in or near the estate, and the maids wound up playing the part of Kaitou's maternal figures for most of his life. However, without a real mother to raise him, the boy really only had his father and grandfather's influence in his early years, and they shaped the general morals and principles that guide him today.
As a child, Kaitou had a terrible temper that was not helped by his classmates who teased him for his lack of a mother. He was sent home for his first fight at the age of four, and his behavior showed no signs of improving anytime soon. In an attempt to curb the boy's fiery disposition, Daisuke had Kaitou take karate classes, but he was pulled out after a year when it was revealed that he was using the techniques he learned in fights at school. After this, Gennosuke, a retired kendōka, began to teach him kendo, hoping that its principles would instill discipline in Kaitou. Over time, the boy began to control his temper, venting his frustrations out with kata instead.
While growing up, Kaitou learned how to take care of domestic tasks by the maids, and discovered that he had a natural aptitude towards cooking. Seeing this as another way to placate the young heir's temper, Daisuke showered his son with various cookbooks and allowed him free reign over the kitchen. Though life at home was peaceful, Kaitou's reputation at school continued to plummet even though he'd stopped picking fights with other children. As a result, his friends were few and far in between, and the boy found himself turning to books to fill the gaps during his free time.
At the start of middle school, Kaitou joined the kendo club at the recommendation of his grandfather. With eight years of experience already under his belt, the boy quickly rose to first dan at thirteen. His polished skills drew the attention of his fellow club members, and suddenly the boy found himself making friends at school. While it was a drastic change to his way of life, Kaitou welcomed it all the same and began to slowly integrate himself into his school's social circles. This time of relative tranquility would last until his first year of high school.
On the eve that Kaitou reached third dan, his father and grandfather threw a celebratory party, inviting many relatives, family friends, and even some of Kaitou's classmates. The party was filled with mirth and lasted late into the night. If you had been there to ask Kaitou how he felt about his usually empty home full of people for such a joyous occasion, he'd have probably told you it seemed too good to be true. And perhaps it was.
As the last of the guests began to filter out of the Nagano estate, a scream broke out from the rear of the mansion, catching the attention of Kaitou and his father. Upon reaching the back, the two were faced with the mangled corpse of one of the maids and a lion-like beast standing over it. Kaitou didn't have enough time to get a good look at it before it noticed them and charged. What happened after is a blur for Kaitou, and he would not have believed the creature appeared at all if he didn't wake up in the hospital the next day with his chest bound by gauze.
Later, Daisuke explained that the creature that had invaded their home was a Shadow, a malignant entity that preyed on humans and their emotions. According to him, these Shadows had been plaguing the household for many years now, and that the other night was the first time it attacked before midnight. Kaitou was then told about the Nagano Group's current goal: the creation of a weapon that could combat the Shadows and be mass-produced for government use. Seeing as Shadows had begun to surge in activity, Gennosuke sought to teach Kaitou more combative techniques to fend them off, and so the boy began rigorous iaijutsu and kenjutsu lessons in addition to his kendo training.
Other than the occasional Shadow attack, Kaitou's life progressed as normal, and following his graduation, he rose to fourth dan. In between university classes, he spent much of his free time with his father, learning the ins and outs of managing the company. During this time, he learned more and more about Shadows and the existence of beings called Personas that could handily combat the Shadows. Both Daisuke and Gennosuke had Personas of their own, but they could not assist Kaitou in awakening to one of his own, so the teen kept to his training.
As Kaitou's twentieth birthday drew close, he found himself in an odd predicament. Up until now, he had gone along with his father and grandfather's decisions without complaint. He was the heir to the Nagano Group, and would come to inherit the title of president when he reached the age of twenty. At least, that's what he'd been telling himself all his life. However, now that the moment was just around the corner, he found himself suddenly having second thoughts on the matter. Taking on his father's title meant that he would mean shouldering all of the responsibilities as president at once, something that Kaitou found himself wanting to avoid at all costs. He was still a kid. A kid! He wasn't ready to become company president overnight! It didn't matter that he'd spent his whole life training and educating himself for this moment. He simply was not ready.
And with that mentality ingrained in his head, Kaitou threw his family for a loop when he announced during his birthday party that he would not be taking the title of company president from his father. He had already packed his bags before the party, ready to be disowned by his father for such a blatant refusal of his destiny as a Nagano. The Japanese were not ones to take tradition lightly, after all.
However, rather than blowing up, Kaitou's father laughed and patted his son on the back, diffusing the sudden tension. He understood that times were different, and that Kaitou's generation was not necessarily raised to take on the same responsibilities he did when he was twenty. So instead of punishing Kaitou, Daisuke struck a deal with his son-- he'd give him three more years to enjoy what life had to offer before taking over the Nagano Group. What a relief, right? So with the weight off his shoulders for now, Kaitou enjoyed the rest of his birthday party and returned to his normal life.
Six months before the present day, Daisuke came to Kaitou asking if he wanted to help close a merger with an ironworks company in China's Mosaic City. Acquiring this company would give the Nagano Group the resources needed to begin work on anti-Shadow weapons (arsenal-type weaponry, not to be mistaken with the Anti-Shadow Units). Seeing as his time was nearly up, and that Mosaic City was said to be an amazing tourist city, Kaitou agreed to represent the Nagano Group in his father's stead, and so he left for China with two of his cousins, Hanako and Matsuo. The deal seemed to be progressing smoothly, if not very slowly. It would only take three months to work through all the red tape.
Of course, with Kaitou's luck, the day that the deal was supposed to be finalized, Mosaic City was placed under a heavy blockade, and all communication with the outside world halted. Naturally, the deal could not be completed. Though it did not seem to trouble the majority of the population, Kaitou and his cousins were unnerved by the sudden blockade and, being the rule-abiding citizens they were (not), snuck past the barricade to see what all the commotion was truly about. They wound up fighting off a horde of Shadows together before fleeing back to the safety of the city. Well then. That certainly wasn't a radiation leak.
Since that time, Kaitou has been living a stagnant life in Mosaic City, playing the part of an innocent citizen by day while exploring the outer ring alone or with his cousins by night. However, without a Persona of his own, there's only so much the man can do. Perhaps one of these days he'll run across his Shadow. Perhaps he'll never awaken.
Who knows?
