Name: Hiroshi Kikami
Age: Seventeen
Date of Birth: 27th of September
Birthplace: Nagasaki, Japan
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Asexual (panromantic tendencies)
Face Claim: Natsume Takashi from Natsume Yuujinchou
Appearance:
Hiro’s appearance is rather common, the soft brownish blonde hair and brown eyes are rather normal, but considering his Japanese parents, it was always questioned why the boy wasn’t born with darker features. His face and the shape of his eyes are like the typical Japanese. His soft facial features also make others question his gender, but his body-build is more masculine than feminine, even if he can be considered rather androgynous. For clothes, he prefers anything that won't hinder his movements. He feels most comfortable when he can cover every patch of skin on his body, so it isn’t rare that he would wear thin, long-sleeved shirts during summer but there are rare times he would rather not fry himself in the strong sun and wears only a T-shirt. Though it is usually hidden, he has scars on his lower arms and hands from chains and knives, and a few on his upper torso as well.
Height: 5’7” (~170 cm)
Class: Persona-user
Arcana: Death
Occupation: Student
Weapons and Proficiencies (Optional): He learned to fight with a naginata (Slash) from his uncle, and due to that, he is used to weapons that have similar shape.
Personality:
Hiro is calm, composed, and cheerful. It's rather hard to anger him - actually nearly impossible - and he rarely considers anyone as his enemy or feels dislike toward others. Most of the time he has a curious and innocent face observing the situations and he counters every aggression with a calm voice. Same goes for bullying, he is actually okay with being bullied and never holds a grudge against anyone. He usually thinks people might have a good reason for singling him out or acting the way they do, and usually thinks he might be the problem, not the other party. As emotionally dumb as he is, telling him jokes will make him laugh though he won't get half of their meaning most of the time. He is just cheerful and totally low on emotional feedback, though he is far from being naive in life (but acting like that is something he finds pretty amusing).
In certain situations his calmness may appear to be cold, but most of the time it is more serene and soothing. He may even seem heartless when he addresses a problem calmly, but he got used to repressing his emotions and holding back as much as possible, so that is natural for him. His occasional snaky comments are hardly noticeable, because his words are masked by a kind smile and voice, but that is exactly why it is so unnerving. He often acts on pure instinct, if he doesn't have the time to think up battle strategies or plans. He is rather awkward in social situations as well, but he is more shy than anything else. The main reason is that he is suffering from a serious case of haphephobia, meaning he is afraid of any form of physical contact. He either freezes up or lashes out when someone touches him or even if just bumps into him, and that hinders him in his everyday life.
He bends to other’s wishes easily, thinking that his own preferences are miniscule compared to others – he always considers what is best to others, and never what is good for him. He likes to meddle with people's business, and likes to know about others a lot. It doesn't seem to be fair since he won't open up easily but still wishes for others to be open to him.
Likes: freedom, light, wind, birds, listening to the sounds of nature, being out in the wild, watching the reaction of people, fantasy novels, comic books, logic puzzles (especially Devil's Locks)
Dislikes: cold weather, spiders, handcuffs and chains, being physically restrained, lies, being shut in a small room (claustrophobia), crowds, direct physical contact (hephaphobia), computers and touch screen phones,
History:
The town Hiro was born in is deeply traditional, one that favors the old habits and rules strongly over the freedom of the modern cities. Shiroko, Hiro’s mother was always a romantic woman and though she did care for the customs of her homeland, she thought breaking those habits was even more exciting and filling for a person like her. She fell crazily in love with a businessman from Tokyo, who was on a business trip to a nearby city, and that meeting was what made her life go down from the heights. She got pregnant from the man who disappeared not much after, so Shiroko was alone with her soon to be born baby and problems. While pregnant she received a kind of 'prophecy' from an elderly man who told her that the baby will be born with power (though it was not clear what he meant). Fired with anticipation and thinking that her lover will return to her if he hears about the baby being unique, she slowly started losing her mind during the pregnancy.
As opposed with her anticipation, the boy didn't show any sign of having any power in his childhood (nothing later either) and that made the mother desperate and angry. She even used inhuman methods to get the boy into using his nonexistent 'powers'. The boy is still bearing the signs of her 'method' on his wrists and body in the forms of scars caused by chains and knives. This was probably also what caused his haphephobia and claustrophobia, though his memories about his mother are all hazy. He was about nine years old when his real father showed up to bring the boy with him to Tokyo where he was working for a big company, but leaving his mother, saying that he has a respectable life, and a family he loved back home. In a crazed fit, Hiro’s mother committed suicide before they traveled away.
The rest of his life in his new home was relatively peaceful. Hiro had a surprisingly good relationship with his half-brother and father though his step-mother was obviously wary of the boy. That doesn't mean they were fighting, Hiro usually avoided her, like most people among the family, and she did the same, so it's actually hard to say that they had any relationship at all. Hiro didn't dislike her, but even at a young age he perfectly understood her thoughts about a child of another woman, so he decided not to cause trouble. The woman was also quite troubled by the fact that Hiro didn't let anyone touch him (due to being uncomfortable with direct physical contact).
His father, as well as his uncle, the younger brother of his father, was a professor who worked at a mental institute that was researching the deeper parts of the mind to reduce the chance of the occurrence of split personalities and generally mental illnesses. Of course they knew it wouldn’t be easy since the mind was a hard concept to figure out on its own. The father believed that the soul and the individual’s past connected much more deeply than they first though. He had a theory that every person had a mirror in their soul that showed a reflection of what the person didn’t want to see, so it was often ignored or suppressed. His research was about making the individuals confront their mirrored self and watch the results. He searched for young volunteers, as he believed it was easier to bring out on an unstable and impressionable state such as the teen age. He involved his family too, and that’s how Hiro was included in simple and seemingly innocent experiments where he had to do a variety of activities under influence. It was always an innocent research, and his father intended for it to stay that way.
They expanded their research and employed the doctors in various countries to search for different results. Hiro, together with a small number of other teens and his uncle were sent to Mosaic city and lived in the smallest estate of Esquaria. While Hiro wasn’t pleased that he was the only one from his family to travel so far away, he had a feeling it might have been their way of separating him from themselves. Hiro couldn’t argue, and thought it would also be better for the family like that.
The experimental lifestyle to confront their mirrored self led to some weird experiences after the first few months in the city. The other four teenagers that were with Hiro started acting weird, but he assumed it was due to stress. It was around that time that the blockade was placed, and they all became more and more uneasy. They weren’t able to reach the other doctors or anyone back home, so Hiro was also worried. His uncle seemed to be the least troubled and decided to just go on with their research even without backup. There was a time his uncle took one of them out in the middle of the night, but the youngster was so traumatized that they couldn’t get her to talk about what happened and she was useless from that point on, as his uncle mentioned. Another boy was taken outside, and when they came back, he was comatose, barely living anymore. He was sent to a hospital, but the chances of him regaining his senses were close to nothing.
Hiro was mentally exhausted to the point that he couldn’t sleet at night, and his results in the research were dropping drastically. He wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do anymore, and the lack of news from the outside and about the blockade were making him more anxious. The next time his uncle decided to do midnight experiments, he took all three remaining teenagers toward the Outer Circle. Hiro voiced his worry about the blockade and how they weren’t supposed to be going there, but was ignored. Confusion and fear was slowly building in all of them, only his uncle seemed to know what he was doing.
When they ventured into the Outer Circle, his uncle asked them the impossible. He started talking about the inner mirrors, the inner self, the warped creatures that were feeding on emotions... He told them to look for shadows, to start doing their job and just stop being so useless and awaken already. Hiro had no idea what he was babbling about, and honestly, it just scared him more. One of the teenagers even decided to just head back to their house, but was stopped while turning around... and effectively killed by something that Hiro assumed were claws of a dark monster. All hell broke lose, and Hiro wasn’t sure what was happening anymore. In the place of his uncle stood a creature that was still partially wearing the skin of the man and talking in his voice, but was not him anymore. It was shouting "Awaken! Awaken! Awaken already!" toward the two remaining teenagers. "It’s more fun to eat when you actually have your other out. So just do it, awaken, and stop being so useless, humans!"
Hiro knew the creature talking wasn’t his uncle, but it still had his voice, and the whole situation was just so absurd he was unable to react. The other teenager who was there was similar, unable to do anything but to stare at the creature and scream. The words, "awaken, awaken" continued on in Hiro’s mind like a mantra, and the next thing he knew he was enveloped by pale mist and wind. The shadow grinned, and the boy’s world fell into darkness.
He woke up just outside the circle, alone. Whether he was left alive on purpose or was saved by someone else was unknown to him, but the shadow that was his uncle before and the other teenager was nowhere to be found. It took Hiro a few days of research and venture to learn what happened there, and to get some basic information about personas, shadows, and the Outer Circle. It was enough for him to get an idea on what was going on in the city, and have the will to search for more, to try to prevent others ending up the same way his teenaged friends or his uncle did.
