How long had it been now? A month? Maybe more? Definitely at least a month. Tonight was the full moon again, after all. Jaelyn hadn't seen Sakuya in that entire time since the last one. It had taken her awhile to realize that she was scared to. But yes, that was exactly it. She had been scared to visit. But now, there wasn't much left she could do. Jaelyn hated to leave things hanging. Whether she stayed or ran off and never looked back, she wanted to know that sooner rather than later. More than that, she missed her.
There was one other reason she chose today of all days, though. The full moon would rise tonight, and another massive enemy would find its way into the city at midnight. Holly had suggested sitting the next fight out, and that was exactly what she was going to do. While it bothered her to just abandon a fight where she could, potentially be needed, she had failed to gather up the resolve to go. Not after what happened last time. This was all she had left. She'd either find that resolve, or stay here in comfort. Or, if she had to distance herself, keep running until she somehow felt better.
It had taken her awhile to find Sakuya's shadowlands villa. She knew it once she saw it, of course. After all, it was the only house that looked like it had even been maintained in the last six months. But finding the area in the midst of all the ruins had taken the better part of the afternoon. By the time she had reached it, night was falling. Not that the shadowlands looked much different between day and night. But it was starting to get darker, at least.
Hesitantly, Jaelyn approached the front door. This was it. Her last chance to turn back and keep hiding. Whatever happened after this point couldn't be taken back. But still, she raised a shaking hand and knocked lightly on the door. Then, regaining a little more confidence from that simple action, knocked a second time, loud enough that anyone inside would be more likely to hear. She had no guarantee that Sakuya would be around, of course. But she could still hope for it. That was all she could do, as she waited to see if the door would open.
