Dr. Kurtz's first expedition outside the city had taken him quite a piece away from the cities. All around him barren fields of grass rolled out towards lifeless farmhouses and small towns forgotten by all but a few. He'd never seen anything like this in all his years fighting shadows. The idea of facing something truly new and different filled him with a vigor that pushed him to walk faster towards his destination. Beyond the fog, he sensed shadows. Pulling out the evoker shoved into the front of his pants, he put the device he'd slowly gotten used to using over the years and pulled the trigger.
In a small burst of light, Merlin appeared and held his wizard staff up. The bubble surrounding the wizard started fluctuating and changing to an array of different pretty colors. It had done this for years. Green meant a low presence of shadows, blue meant mild, yellow meant high, red meant 'this'll actually be fun'. Merlin's bubble turned a dark red and pointed his staff off towards a sign. 'Mine ahead. Tread with caution.' Turning to look at his Persona's computer screen, his own growing excitement was reflected in the ":3" face that Merlin's computer screen was making. In another flash, it was gone and Desmond was left trekking towards the man.
Before entering the cave, he took his pack of grenades out from his side and put them down in front of the cave. Despite how useful they may or may not be, it would be very unwise to bring high grade explosives into a mine that could collapse at any moment. Despite the darkness of the cave, the area seemed oddly illuminated. Again, nothing out of the ordinary here. For all their bad points (like bringing out the worst of humanity, murdering people, breaking families apart), shadows sure were fair when it came to letting others see in areas where they were busy infesting everything. "From a farmer to a miner, you sure have come far in your years of study, Des." He muttered darkly under his breath. Down he went looking for shadows to prod. He wanted to see just how strong the shadows were down here to be showing up as red for him.
