Post by Soren Jensen on Feb 21, 2014 14:02:14 GMT -5
Name: Soren Jensen
Age: As a Shadow, he's 12. Combining human and Shadow, he's 37.
Date of Birth: December 2nd for his human original. February 13th for his Shadow-conception.
Birthplace: Germany
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Asexual
Face Claim: Sorinozuka Renshou – Inu x Boku SS
Appearance:
Height: 5'8
Distinguishing Features: His tattoo runs from under his left eye to just past the collar bone; no further than that.
Class: Shadow
Arcana: The Emperor
Occupation: Owner of the teashop “Anteiku”.
Weapons and Proficiencies (Optional): Though he does not utilize typical weapons, he does, on occasion, materialize the weapon his Shadow-form uses. The weapon, a spear, is used as a medium for most, if not all, of his physical skills in his Shadow form, but, when used while he's in his human form, it can only deal Pierce-based damage.
Personality:
Soren is a particularly mixed individual. Outwardly, he seems to be quiet and reserved, but this is just his initial act. He uses this outward projection to keep annoyances, typically humans, away from him. When he does speak like this, it's typically with curt, quick answers designed purely for the sake of cutting the conversation short. He does not put forth an effort to maintain civility when like this. He does manage to keep his annoyance hidden, however.
Of course, while it's not a lie, that is only an act. He's much more open when around those he trusts or feels to be on the same level of. This is typically reserved entirely for his fellow Shadows. He's a bit of a joker, usually relying on dry wit, sarcasm, and the occasional pun to make himself the butt of jokes, simply for the sake of camaraderie. He's an altogether friendly person when like this, willing to lend an ear or a shoulder for a friend in need. You wouldn't assume, from this front, that he was actually a very dangerous person.
See, at the root of things, certain traits prevailed from his human counterpart's negativity. Soren has a superiority complex, for starters. He considers himself superior to humans, and, dependent on the individual, to some of his Shadow comrades. He's extraordinarily vindictive towards those that he has little or no care for. Even with friends, a retaliatory joke can sometimes be fairly vicious, and delivered with a smile no less. He's manipulative when he doesn't care for his pawns, and he can be quite calculative, to boot. But, even with these things, he only seems “mildly dangerous”. See, that's only the tip of the iceberg.
If and when it comes to arms, Soren is more than a little merciless. In fact, his battle style can be considered thoroughly vicious and borderline sadistic, if not for the fact that he often doesn't waste time to torture his opponents. Like a berserker, he thrives in the ecstasy of combat, thrilled with each splash of the enemy's blood. That's not to say that he's reckless, though. Even though he can go wild, becoming a force of nature, he's still very much in control of his thoughts and actions.
And, despite all this, he considers himself “pure”. He would never lie to his fellow Shadows. To humans, a lie or two is a necessary evil, at least in Mosaic, but he often deals in truths and half-truths, even to them. See, he takes the “true self” bit of being a Shadow very seriously. More than that, he's got a sense of morals, even though Shadows are the main ones benefiting from it now. See, it's a matter of perspective. After all, it's not that he's evil.
It's humanity that's evil.

History:
Now, Soren is a Shadow, so we're not gonna focus too much on that dead guy that came before him. We'll give some necessary stuff, though. Youngest of three kids, Soren's predecessor was an exceptionally sharp kid with a knack for business. Coming from a humble origin, the boy managed to play his cards right on several occasions, becoming the full owner of a large business in Germany. No stockholders- direct holding.
When the human was twenty-five, an incident occurred. That was when the being that would one day call itself Soren met face to face with the human. Rejection and a gunshot aimed at the head was all the man had to offer to the Shadow. But the bullet dropped to the ground uselessly. The human was then lanced and fed to lesser Shadows. From that day on, the Shadow became the human, and none knew the wiser.
Soren battled with Persona-users on occasion during the incident. His human shape was never discovered, so he had a few good chances to safely battle them. On one evening, he fought against three of them. Killed one, crippled the second, and allowed the third to run with his crippled ally. At that point in time, Soren did not have a contempt for humans. He was, however, appalled at the fact that three people attacked him as a group, but acted as individuals instead of one body. They were sloppy and selfish, as though looking for honor and glory. For the time being, he chalked it up to being an issue regarding just select humans.
But, as time passed, Soren learned something from running the company his human predecessor setup. It was the average human that was disgusting. Within six months of becoming “himself”, Soren liquidated the company and left Germany. He eventually ended up in Denmark. He came across a temple with monks who had foresworn the materialistic ways of the majority of humans. Interested and hopeful for enlightenment, Soren entered the temple. He spent three years there. And what did he gain from the events? A tattoo as a sign of his initiation and a profound sense of disappointment. Having fed off of the repressed emotions and desires of the monks, the Shadow had become strong, but also depressed. After some time, he came to the conclusion that liars such as the monks should no longer exist. One night passed, and many lives ended helplessly.
It was around that time that the Shadow adopted his current name. Dropping his original identity entirely- a means of him establishing himself as a new entity, not tied to his human counterpart- he had to come up with a new name on the fly. He adopted the name “Soren” from the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. Jensen was just a common name in the region. That was when he finally “existed”.
He spent the following three and a half years going from religious organization to philosophical gathering. Catholicism, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, as well as several others, all said nice things. Their followers all fell short of what he was looking for, though. Depression hit him even harder. It was looking like humanity, as a whole, was nothing more than a disgusting lot. It was around that time that he started to properly adopt his superiority complex. The seed was always there, as his originator held onto it in everyday life. However, Soren's development of it was against the human race as a whole. He was “the true self” of a human. He was honest and pure. He was sincerely more open to the ideas of those religions and philosophies than the preachers and practitioners were!
So why did he feel so empty?
Over the next three years, the Shadow wandered the world. Disappoint came in many forms. He battled with numerous Users, having managed to stumble across a few more “incident areas” in his time. While he gave them a good run for their money, he ultimately ended up fleeing. Having neglected feeding, he had grown weak. One particular engagement in Taiwan left him battered and submerged in currents. He eventually washed up on the Chinese mainland. It took him some time to recover, but he eventually broke down and began feeding again. He recovered and gradually proceeded to the north, his travels having slowed due to his lack of drive.
Eventually, the Shadow ended up in Mosaic. He had just withdrawn and organized his fundings when the lockdown occurred. At first, he did not care. Then he realized brothers and sisters were around. His brethren were there, in a sealed region, with countless humans. He was. . . intrigued. Utilizing his funds, he bought out some space and labor to construct a shop for his kind, named “Anteiku”. He also began regularly feeding on the emotions of those in the city, regaining his strength slowly.
Soren was no longer without aim. He would cater to his own kind and support them. And if a few humans were to die along the way, Users or no, then so be it. That was just the way the cookie crumbled.
OOC Name: Eri
Shadow-form: Odin
Shadow-form Appearance:
Shadow-form Lore: Odin is known as one of the predominant Norse gods. Father of Thor and a number of others, he's a god of poetry, war, and trickery. As a Shadow, Soren's form puts emphasis on Odin's violent, war-loving self. Where Odin could be seen as a god of light, as a benevolent, peaceful entity, this form is clearly a god with no pure intents other than the mongering of war and violence.
