History: Jonathan Nicholson Was born in a small town in the countryside of nevada as the son of a convenience store owner and his wife. Even at his young age, he was already fascinated by the military, wanting to join them when he was grown up to 'become a strong hero that crushes bad guys'. In his youth, he had slowly built a tight-knit group of friends with which he stayed all the way trough middle school. It was around the time thyey graduated that america entered a war. John and his freinds being military enthusiasts, promtly signed up with the intent of serving their country.
The first few weeks of training were hellish, but they group of friends persevered by virtue of their mutual encouragement and support. They eventually all made it trough and managed to get deployed in the same unit. They were all happy at the time, being able to finally fulfill their childhood fantasy of joining the army and being a hero for their great country. The reality however, was much harsher.
First of all, the region they were being sent to was a jungle region infamous for it's wet climate, muddy ground, and general unpleasentness. They coped with this quite smoothly, however there was also the ever present threat of enemy attack, both on patrol and in bases, due to very poor visibility and the enemy having the home advantage.
Somehow, The group of friends managed to adapt to this enviroment and survive mostly unscathed physically, although even at this point John had already accrued quite a bit of baggage from his experiences so far. Yet he had also realized his dream as he and his friends had become known as the 'jungle squad' for their proficiency at surviving in the jungle in circumstances that would drive the average soldier insane.
It all came crashing down one day with a simple chain of events. John hasn't figured out exactly what happened back then even to this day, but the gist of it was that the mission which they were on went catastrophically wrong, they had been led into an ambush by a rival force that may or may not have been assembled with the specific goal of destroying the infamous 'jungle squad'. Whatever it was, the ambush was a huge succes, as most of john's friends were killed in front of his eyes, others being heavily wounded and bleeding out later. It was this day that the last remnant of his youhtful naivete about the nature of war had finally been shattered. He managed to fight his way out and get extracted. Although he immediately found out he was the only survivor. The following days, he had a complete mental breakdown. He was eventually shipped back to america after losing an eye to his injuries, as well as being diagnosed with psychological traumas elated to the recent events.
His homecoming was met with much joy by his own parents.Unfortunately, the families of his other friends couldn't shut up about what happened to them and how they felt bad for him, which excerberated his already tremendous guilt.
Fast forward about 45 years. John is now living in Pmosaic city, having moved there after his parents died of old age after hearfing about the pleasent climate there. Still even now, as he was aged and wizened, his past still haunted him. He had rarely had a good night's sleep ever since the 'incident'. Psychtherapy had long since proven fruitless so he just learned how to cope with it. Some time after he moved in, the city was put under some kind of lockdown. John initially did not have a problem with this.
It was after a month or so of being cut off from the outside world that some kind of nagging feeling crept up to john. It compelled him to investigate the sealed off part of the city. He made his way there, slipping through the obvious gaps in the lockdown to come upon an unsettling scene. The world beyond the wall looked ravaged and abandoned. At first he was worried there might be some truth to the claims of radiation outside of the city but quickly concluded that if there were any radiation, it would have killed his old body already. After some wandering in this abandoned cityscape, he came across a particularly prominent office building, somehow, he knew there was something inside that he simply had to see.
He didn't have to go far to encounter something, it was a strange creature, like a blob of shadow wearing a mask, he observed the creature seemingly searching for something, until it noticed him and charged right at him. He had enough knowledge about wild animals to know it was probably attacking him and decided to make a run for it.
Even though he was a trained soldier, John could only outrun the beast for so long before both his age and the creature catched up to him. Having brought along friends now. It seemed to have brought friends too. So there he was, backed into a corner, with unkown monsters slowly encroaching upon him. It was then that he first felt the rush of power that would later become like a second nature to him. A sirge that made the shadows back away from something. John quickly looked up to just what would spook scare these aggresive creatures. It appeared to be a black robed figure, with a single leg and a single eye. He immediately felt kind of bond to this new creature. Whatever it was, it seemed to be doing … something to the shadow blobs. John watched in disbelief as the creatures were torn apart by what seemed like the shadows themselves. After this, the one eyed-figure seemd to somehow retreat into John's body.
John was left flabbergasted at the events that had just transpired, yet he also felt like something had awakened inside of him. He quickly made his way out of the shadowlands (or at least as quick as a man of his age could) and locked himself up in his appartment. Just what were those things back there, why did the government keep it a secret, and why hadn't they attacked the city yet. Somehow, he flet like the answer to these questions was out there, just waiting to be discovered. Thus, the old man dug around in his closet and collected several items from his army days, he would get to the bottom of this new mystery. Interestingly, he also found an unfamiliar card among his old gear. He took it with him as something told him it was important.
