Being homeless and without two pennies to rub together was a hard life to be sure. Hard enough that Haru adopted the stance of a particular hooded Robin- take from the common man and give to the homeless! Or something. Haru never paid very close attention to fables. A passing thought suggested that it was 'Steal from the rich and give to the poor', but that couldn't be right. The middle class would get upset when you nicked their stuff to be sure, but they couldn't actually do much about it. They move on and try to forget that it ever happened. But the rich? The rich will hunt you down and end you, no matter what the personal expenses are.
So the moral of the story is; Haru ended up stealing from Joe Average and pawning off what she could at seedy establishments that chose not to ask a whole lot of questions, like why a young girl was trying to sell a high quality pocket watch. Or why she carried a large weapon slung over her shoulder. Or why she had pink hair. Or why she was dressed like some sort of flamboyant cosplayer. But today was different. Haru managed to procure an item that even her usual places refused to accept it. It was a small puzzle box with strange symbols etched into the sides that seemed to emit some kind of otherworldly aura- even just holding it made her feel incredibly uncomfortable. Apparently she wasn't the only one, because one glance at the box was enough for a few of her most trusted associates to kick her to the curb without a second thought. It wasn't that Haru couldn't figure out what was in the box- even though she was considered to be dumb by a great many people, including her own father, the girl was clever in her own way. She couldn't figure out how to divide, but solving puzzles? That was actually something she was quite skilled in for whatever reason. No, it wasn't that she couldn't figure it out, but she simply didn't want to try. Call it cowardice, but there was just something not right about it.
The girl was just about at the end of her rope when yet another pawn store clerk told her to bugger off. She practically got on her knees and begged him to take it off her hands, but he refused, although he did tell her about a mysterious woman who was willing to buy anything from anyone. Haru dismissed it as just a rumor, but when the clerk told her that the 'Junk Dealer' was her only chance to be rid of the box, she finally submitted and set out to hunt this woman down. As she wandered around the city, Haru recalled how she came in possession of the damned box. She'd been exploring with Shiranui when the wolf suddenly sprinted away only to come back a good twenty minutes later with the puzzle box held in his mouth. He forced the box into her hand, but when she felt it's unnatural power, she immediately tossed it. Only for the wolf to resummon himself of his own accord and force the box on her yet again. No matter what she tried to do with it, Shiranui would only hand it back to her and then stare at her as if he expected something from her. But really, she just wanted to be rid of the thing. It was kind of funny in a cruel way- Haru ended up being cursed by one of the few trinkets that she hadn't stolen.
Haru could feel Shiranui's eyes burning into the back of her head. She tried her best to ignore the wolf, but somehow he managed to make his presence known without saying or doing anything- he just followed silently and wouldn't stop staring. It was infuriating. Haru had finally had enough and turned around to face the wolf, "Fine! You want me to open this? MAYBE I WILL!" The girl quickly started shifting the various sliding pieces into place, lining up the lines carved into the slats in order to form words in some language that she had no comprehension of. It only took a few minutes for her to solve the puzzle, letting her snatch the object hidden inside before throwing the empty box over her shoulder. The object was a small, red Omamori. There was some kind of fragment stored inside of it that felt almost like a kind of gem, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't open the little amulet. She glanced up at the wolf for some kind of guidance, only to see him sitting before her with a softer expression than before. If she didn't know any better, she'd say that he was smirking at her. The jerk. He held her gaze for a moment before flicking his head to the side, gesturing towards the building beside them. Haru glanced at the building before looking back at the wolf, but he was already gone.
Haru sighed softly and stepped into the building, only to find the very person that she was looking for. She mumbled something unsavory about Shiranui under her breath and placed the amulet on the counter in front of the so-called 'Junk Dealer', clasping her hands in front of her, "Please... please, take this thing off my hands. I'll do anything...!"
