Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
DJ sighed softly, putting his hand on his sword. He wasn't very experienced with fighting nor did he have an extensive grasp on his newly awakened Persona powers, but this was what Persona-users did as far as he could gather and he had to start somewhere if he was to get stronger and progress through the circle and attempt to find his family on the other side. He'd heard from people in the Gap that the sewers were a good place to start for beginners. He felt a little odd to be starting out on his own with limited experience but he had to start somewhere and hopefully this would be an easy way for him to train up.
He stepped through the sewers carefully, trying not to mind the smell as he kept his weapon at the ready. He was a student, not a soldier, but he had to give it his all. He centered his mind, keeping faith that his Persona would help protect him and augment his natural movements. He eventually took his sword out and carried it in his hands, not wanting anything to get the drop on him as he looked around. If things got too bad the creatures outside could be a danger to the city or even possibly outside of it. With that in mind even in this lower level it would be helpful to clear out some shadows. He was happy to be able to help out and make himself stronger to progress through the circle himself and vent some of his pent-up anger he hid from others. Hopefully he could handle whatever came his way.
DJ continued through the sewers with a sigh, holding his nose as the smell seemed to be getting worse as he went. He kept his eyes out as he explored, feeling a cold shiver run down his spine as he quickly whipped around. He spotted an amorphous blob with arms and a face covered in... well things he didn't want to get into. The perfect description of what someone would expect if you talked about a shadow monster. Before the monster could lash out at him he hit it with his sword and jumped to the side, trying to use his maneuverability to his advantage.
The Maya flinched a bit and slashed the open air with its arms, it didn't seem all that damaged by the strike though, DJ was still fairly new at this and weapons didn't seem as effective against the creature unless augmented by their Persona magic stuff. "Let's try this then." He focused himself, pulling out his Arcana card and summoning his Persona, the female knight Arianrhod behind him. "Cleave" The demon held out her sword and passed by the Maya, doing a bit more damage this time though still not slowing it down as it lunged for the boy again.
It lashed out, smacking DJ twice with a Twin Shot attack which hit him like a one-two punch, the first hit catching him off-guard and the second knocking him back into the wall with a cough. He stumbled to get up, a bit sore from the attack but still alright. "Alright, let's see how you like this! Bufu!" He raised his card into the air and the female knight summoned her power again, creating a spear of ice that impaled the Maya, harming it greatly and causing it to stumble forward. "Heh... don't like that one too much, huh?" He asked, it looked like it was on its last legs now but still wasn't giving in.
The shadow waved its arms menacingly, casting a spell of its own. A brief flash of fire sprung forth as it performed an Agi attack. DJ's eyes widened as the fire hit him, feeling hotter than anything he had ever felt before and causing him to stumble back. "It's... so hot!" He grunted through his teeth as he endured the pain and miraculously his body held together despite the flames feeling more intense than any he had experienced before. "Since this thing can use ice, am I... adverse to fire now too?"
The Maya stumbled forward, ready to slash DJ again while he contemplated his situation. He regained his bearings and pointed his card outward while the shadow was inches away. "But it looks like you don't like ice either..." He said through gritted teeth. Using his Persona as a source of strength just before the shadow attacked him again he pointed his card outward between two fingers, holding his hand like a gun. "BUFU!!" This time the icicle spear came directly from him using his Persona as a conduit rather than directly from the Persona herself, impaling the Maya.
The shadow stopped moving and disappeared into a black mist while his Persona went back into the sea of his soul. The boy sighed and stood up, feeling a bit sore and rather tired from the experience of using his magic more than he had before and discovering his weaknesses. He held his head and shook it softly. "Ugh... I'm beat... I'm going home." He grumbled as he carefully hobbled out of the sewer. "I'm tired of the stench anyway..."
