Name: Shirako Tachibana
Age: Thirty-six
Date of Birth: January 21
Birthplace: Nakano, Tokyo; Japan
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Asexual, homoromantic
Face Claim: Kaguya Houraisan - Touhou
Appearance:
Height: 5'4
Distinguishing Features: She has numerous scars along her arms and back, but a number are faded enough that one needs to be fairly close and observant to notice them.
Class: Veteran Persona-user
Arcana: The Empress
Occupation: Ex-investigator, ex-teacher. Currently just acting as a Shadow-slayer.
Weapons and Proficiencies (Optional): Katana (Slash damage); details not here because of the format of this profile.
Personality:
If there's one word that can be used to describe Shirako, it's “calm”. As an investigator, she learned, through experience, to always maintain a degree of composure, no matter how bad or dangerous things become. She's observant and attempts to maximize productivity or positivity in a situation while minimizing other issues. Reliable and hard-working, you could almost consider her an ideal office worker. She might even be ideal, if not for her brutal honesty.
In the past, she had been easy-going, jocular, and just generally warm on the front. She was extremely caring and considerate, paying attention to every person around her for the sake of taking care of them. Lenient when it was deserved, and strict at any other time, she was a responsible adult and a capable teacher up until certain events occurred. While she's still kind, it takes a roundabout perspective, or plenty of observation, to realize that that kindness is still there.
In the present, she's outwardly cold to people. She keeps a distance from others to protect herself- not out of fear of rejection or betrayal, but from failing others, or receiving painful confessions. While she does have a sense of humor, she rarely jokes anymore. Distant, cold, quiet- she has all the qualities one would expect from an investigator or assassin on the outside. Of course, things aren't always as they seem.
Despite her current exterior and her persevering towards her current goal, Shirako is a lazy, self-destructive, self-loathing woman. Failure to protect the things dear to her, several times over, have ruined her confidence in terms of interpersonal relationships. Feeling that getting close to others would lead to another situation in which she'd fail them, she keeps them at bay. It's a lonely tactic, sure, but it's what works for her for the time being.

History:
Shirako was born into a happy family at the same time as her twin. For the most part, she led an average childhood, aside from having a weak heart, and a completely identical sister. That ended at age eight. It was at that time that the father died, jumping at and knocking his children to safety as the ceiling of a room collapsed in what was considered to be a freak accident. To the three children, the father was a hero, but that vision could not have been further from the truth, when one knew all the puzzle pieces.
Their mother put on a strong face- never shedding tears in front of her children (or in general, actually)- and the children eventually overcame their loss. Around the age of ten, Shirako and her twin were both told by their mother to learn a method of self-defense. Shirako took up kendo, effectively hitting first dan at age thirteen. She then continued to practice officially until she hit high school- by which time she was effectively a third dan. Though she ceased official practice, she continued training in private- along with learning other disciplines.
In high school, she did not actively participate in clubs, though she had a rather bad habit of popping into the kendo, cooking, and literature clubs. Her twin took part in the cooking club, which inspired her popping in there. The other two were purely for her own interest. Her grades were not the best, but she usually hit above the eighty-five mark in classes. Her jack-of-all-trades skill set and open and friendly personality, along with her twin's intelligence and innocence, made the two of them fairly popular towards their second and third years.
After graduation, Shirako had no motivation to attend a college, finding that she had nothing in particular she wanted to study. Her sister did move on to college. On the other hand, looking towards her brother for inspiration, she quickly turned her sights towards private investigation. Becoming his assistant before hitting nineteen, she gradually went from assisting him on jobs to working on other jobs under the name of his office.
At the age of twenty-one, she awakened as a Persona-user. During a stakeout, she experienced the Dark Hour, which led to her encountering a stray Shadow. Over the following months, it occurred to her that her brother also had the ability to use a Persona. Though the two exercised increased caution in the times around midnight, they focused their efforts on completing their jobs. It was around that time that they became aware of the greater workings in the world, eventually being contacted by a certain organization. Details were exchanged, but the two did not officially work with the group. They did, however, agree to clean up minor Shadow incidents around their area.
A couple of years passed. During this period, the siblings' mother finally passed. Shirako began to focus more on work than on her twin. As a result, when a burglar broke in, neither Shirako nor her older brother were at home. While the younger twin was, by no means, weak, she, like Shirako, had a weak heart. A well-placed blow to the chest caused her heart to enter a fit. It resulted in her passing. That was the trigger that broke something inside Shirako. She had failed as an older sister, she thought. As a result, she retired as an informant and investigator. She swapped over to teaching- which wasn't too hard due to the number of contacts and friends she had, and it seemed like a good enough means to alleviate her guilt. Teach and guide some kids, get them moving on the right course and all.
That was when she was twenty-four.
Over the next few years, the woman met a number of unique students. She helped them how she could, and a number of them left to lead productive, happy lives. Hell, it looked like the woman was going to have a happy ending, after all. Redemption and happiness served in a basket. Thing is, we all know where this sort of story goes. If they're here, there isn't a happy ending.
Age twenty-eight, her teaching career reached an end. A large-scale incident occurred, coincidentally overlapping with the grounds of the school. Shadows were everywhere. Students ended up in four varieties- dead, traumatized, Shadows, or Users. About a third of woman's class ended up in the first class. Those that were in the second group ended up committing suicide somewhere down the line- just delayed death. Combined, about sixty percent of the class ended up straight-dead.
The sad thing? They were the fortunate ones.
Whether it was from fear of persecution for their beliefs, or something like that, kids were rejecting their personal Shadows left and right. One thing was being unable to protect her students. Another was watching them being replaced before her eyes. It was a whole different matter for them to calmly stare at her, with absolutely zero ill intent, and say that they loved her.
It was no big deal to be loved by her students. She appreciated it, but she had had that effect from the get-go. For some reason, her students all gradually began to love coming to school with her being a teacher. It was warm, loving environment. So, while she understood that the group of Shadows were honestly saying their feelings, it broke the woman in an entirely new way. Confusion. Rage. Hatred. Self-loathing. A number of things blossomed in her mind. The woman charged forward. She began to eliminate the few she could get to before they ran. And what did she get?
“Why won't you accept us?”
Most of the Shadows of her class escaped that day. Following the event, the woman had gotten in touch with that organization. All the legal issues revolving around the school would be swept under the table- a disgusting ultimatum, but a necessary one. And then an agreement was reached. Shirako would offer her powers to the organization, so long as she had the freedom to track down her students' Shadows and kill them.
Years passed. One by one, she hunted down her wayward “students”. Each time, her heart was filled with guilt. Each discussion before fighting made her waver. She was finally down to four just a few months prior to the present. A few flags had been raised in a small coastal area around Russia. One of her students became a ringleader, rallying up Shadows to create some mischief or another. The woman, along with a small team, waged war through the streets.
Though victorious, and though she herself put the student to death, the woman took a blow to her chest. Her heart, already in bad shape from the constant stress, was set off. Though they managed to save her, the woman was hospitalized for the better part of two months to stabilize. Towards the end of her recovery, she was informed that three entities, matching the records they had on her final three marks, had all been located in a certain city prior to it going dead.
And then she was told that they place was now a new battleground.
Though weakened from her time in bed, the woman had accepted her next destination. Even if it was a bad call, the thought of finishing her vengeance was plenty attractive. Her struggle could finally come to a close. It was only natural that she'd want to be deployed. Loaded with gear, plenty of money, and a goal, the woman was deployed into the city. The actual arrival could have been smoother, but she got in in one piece. That was about a month ago.
