Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
Admittedly, Pyxis was feeling better. Despite her earlier resolutions, the last time she had gone up into the towering executive building, her will had wavered, and she'd almost done exactly what she promised not to. Now, now she was fine. But even so, no amount of 'feeling better' nor any reminder of her ultimate goal in this juggernaut of office space could help the fact that the long climb and the repetition of going up over forty floors, exploring for awhile, then coming over forty floors back down was starting to wear on her. The tower, once a goal to aspire too, was now a looming boss fight, and Pyxis was feeling less and less optimistic about her chances. After all, even if she made it to the top, she faced the prospect of facing what would probably be the greatest threat she had yet encountered, then coming one hundred floors back down once it was dealt with.
Her body would probably be able to take it. Her mind? She was less confident about that.
Now this was different. Awaiting Pyxis in an office on the fifty-sixth floor was a shadow so large it had brought down several ceiling panels to fit its sheer girth. It had a body of stone, ending in castle ramparts, with miniscule stairs winding up its entire height. And, somehow, it was standing on a pair of stubby legs.
Pyxis mostly focused on the stairs, though. "Are you mocking me?" she asked, raising her arms toward the Castle shadow. She opened fire on it, easily tearing bullet holes in the stonework of the shadow's body. In response, lances shot out from within existing holes near the top, slamming into Pyxis. She continued firing, now backing away and strafing around the castle to try and get it to move. It did, stumbling forward on its tiny legs to get at Pyxis. In doing so, its head got caught in the nearest bit of ceiling framework that hadn't been torn down. The Castle tripped, crashing to the ground and falling through the floor. It managed to catch Pyxis with a blunt force attack in the process, but she was able to shrug it off for the most part despite its strength. She jumped down the new hole in the floor after the Castle, shooting as she went until it finally stopped falling and Pyxis landed on top of it. In a last ditch effort, the Castle launched a chunk of its own stone body at Pyxis, but only succeeded in dealing resisted damage and knocking her off. Within a second, she had recovered and opened fire one last time, finishing it off.
As the shadow dissolved, Pyxis looked back up through the ceiling she had fallen through. Or rather...multiple ceilings. Sheesh, just how far had they fallen? If her sensors were any indication, they were still within the third stratum, but had gone down at least five floors. Standing up, Pyxis looked around. No shadows in the immediate area. In fact, if she hurried, she could probably get a clear shot back to the stairs. Not that she wasn't in any condition to continue, but...the tower was starting to wear on her. She needed to get out and try somewhere new. Maybe next time, she'd go to one of the places that Alisa had mentioned.
