Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.

By now, Layla was far enough down that it was starting to get difficult to see the surface at all. The lack of bright light from up above meant she didn't have anything to fixate on, and instead had nothing but a towering shadow looming above her. A more literal one, that was.
"One more fight, and I should probably call it a day," Layla said. Even if the fights with shadows weren't wearing on her the way it was, the walk certainly would be. And she'd still have to get back up once she was done anyway.
...Actually, thinking of it like that, it was probably best for her to go ahead and turn around, and get that last fight on the way back up.

As Layla started her way back up, a single shadow descended on her, letting out a screech as it approached. Pushing herself against the wall, Layla managed to avoid its dive bomb, but the shadow, a very large bird-like one, turned around for another pass as soon as it registered that it had missed. Layla summoned Vajrabhairava and called down a massive bolt of lightning, striking the bird in mid-flight and causing it to fall several feet, past the path, before managing to recover. It shakily rose back up, stirring up gusts of wind with its wings as it ascended, then unleashed them in a windstorm as it drew level with Layla. Layla had to stay braced against the wall to avoid being blown about and possibly off the path, but managed to weather the storm until it subsided. The bird then pulled back for another dive, but in the moment where it was in one place, Layla called down another bolt of lightning, dropping the bird into the abyss below.

And that was that. Layla hadn't been hurt too badly by the shadow, but there still wasn't much point continuing any deeper for the moment. The hike itself wasn't too bad, at least not beyond how long it was, but fighting shadows all along the way made it all the rougher. For now, she would need to go back and keep doing this in short(-ish) bursts until she was strong enough to breeze through the upper path. Just doing that, and pushing deeper each time, would eventually get her to the bottom. And then, once she did, she would finally be able to see what lie in the depths.
