Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
The Devil's Descent, as local Users called this sinkhole, was a strange enough place on its own. Sinkholes very rarely got this large, but this one in particular had appeared sometime after Heaven's Gate. Or along with it. Pyxis supposed that that was also a possibility. Whatever the case, its appearance had forced the organization to redo all of its maps of Mosaic City and the shadow-infested area, but she had never actually been inside.
Now, on Alisa's recommendation, she would. It was, for the moment, the final stop on her tour of the outskirts, although she was prepared to enter the floating castle as well once she deemed herself strong enough. Who knew, maybe she would reach that point once she was done with the massive sinkhole before her.
Now this was strange. A short ways down the path, Pyxis ran into an alcove with a couple shadows sitting around a ruined table. One, a formless Maya type, seemed to be using fire skills to cook something that Pyxis was grateful she was unable to smell. The other, a Tiara type, bid Pyxis welcome with a deceptively benevolent gesture. It might have worked on a human, but Pyxis could tell they were getting ready to fight. She took the initiative, however, summoning Elpis and unleashing a shadowy barrage on the two of them. The Tiara type recoiled away from Pyxis, hiding its mask in strands of hair, but the Maya type managed to get away with only taking damage from the hit, and retaliated with a blast of wind aimed at Pyxis.
Compared to what she had faced recently, however, the wind was only a minor concern. Pyxis shrugged it off, then lashed out with another barrage of formless evils, pummeling both shadows until they were in critical condition. The Maya again hit her with a gust of wind, but this time the Tiara successfully managed to act, and used the opportunity to heal the two of them. Pyxis then charged up for her next attack, preparing to finish the fight in one blow despite the healing. The Maya switched to fire, attempting to find a weakness but failing, but again the Tiara cowered instead of acting. Pyxis again hammered the shadows with a series of blows, smashing them into bits.
Fortune seemed to be on Pyxis's side today. She could easily recognize that, between the healing and whatever else the Tiara shadow had up its sleeve, the fight could have ended up much more drawn out. And probably nastier. Whatever else it had up its sleeve, though, it wasn't going to be able to do it now. And...it dropped something. A drink, of some sort. That was probably useless to her, since she was incapable of eating or drinking anything, but perhaps it would still come in handy in the future. She could hang onto it.
With that stashed away, she turned towards the edge of the path and slid down wall of the sinkhole until she hit the next loop of the path. She was going to take the quick way down.
