Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.
Were it not for the fact that she was still hoping to draw out the 'boss' of this area, Pyxis might have gone looking for new stomping grounds. It just wasn't providing much for her anymore. Which wasn't to say she wasn't getting anything out of continuing to explore (her new maid uniform being a notable example), but there had to be something better out there. For instance, where did the elites train? She wasn't the strongest of the Users, so where did everyone else go? Did they fight in this place as well? Or was there something else she was missing?
Pyxis stopped her exploration as she sensed an approaching shadow. No...it was more than one. It was...quite a few, actually. More blips than she could count were showing up on her radar, coming from all directions. That...was not something she could handle. A few shadows? Easy. A lot of shadows? Challenging, but still doable. Every damned shadow in the library? Not a chance. She braced herself for the impending onslaught, lowering her body to the ground and preparing to either jump over some of them or make a mad dash through what looked like the weakest point. But then, they started to come into view, and the disappointment hit. It was just a horde of Maya types.
"Well, this is underwhelming. Might as well just deal with them, then," Pyxis said. She raised her arms, summoned Elpis, and called down a supercharged rain of meteors on the horde. They crashed down all around, destroying Mayas left and right. Those that remained scurried to get out of the way, hiding in the shadows of bookcases or wreckage left by already fallen meteors. From there, they attempted to pelt her with elemental attacks from all directions. Pyxis found one where mostly, ironically enough, lightning was coming from, and ran headlong into it to avoid as much of the oncoming fire as possible. Elpis trailed behind her, firing bolts of light into the sky to rain down on anything that was left. Pyxis heard the telltale signs of more shadows dissolving, but there were still quite a few blips left on the radar.
Several of the closer ones converged on Pyxis, throwing their bodies at her in an attempt to mob her. Although several managed to hit her, a fact that made her thankful once again for her armor, well-placed gunfire from her hands managed to keep most of them at bay. The survivors scurried away again to resume taking potshots. But as they started, Pyxis brought down another rain of meteors, crushing most of them.
Then, she started running. Not to escape, but to get the remaining Mayas to follow. She changed her path every few intersections, funneling as many of the leftovers as possible into a single group. Then, she waited, watching her radar and the path in front of her as she waited for them to appear. As they did, Pyxis opened fire on them. They did the same, firing off more elemental attacks, but they became easier to avoid as more of them went down, and within a few more seconds she had finished off the last of the horde.
The library went silent again as the last of the Maya types dies. The last of the blips on Pyxis's radar disappeared as well, leaving her little area of the library completely empty. Pyxis looked around for any stragglers just in case, but none came up. The horde was done. It was...oddly satisfying, defeating all those shadows at once. But troubling at the same time. What was the point of staying here if she could just wipe the floor with everything that appeared? Eliminating shadows was one thing, but more and more Pyxis was starting to get the impression that she was better off tackling the big ones and ignoring most of the random unintelligent trash. After all, most of that repopulated endlessly. If she wasted her time with it, her mission really would be an impossibility.
