Mosaic City, located along China's coast, is quite large city sometimes called the Crossroads Between Nations due to its diverse population. While it was once a large tourist spot, the city was placed under a blockade as the military appeared claiming there was a radiation leak. The true hazard, however, is much more sinister.

The massive sinkhole on the outskirts of the city wasn't completely devoid of junk to bring back. Some of it had fallen in from up above, and collected along the path, while more of it had been 'liberated' from shadows Layla had fought along the way. So when she got back from her latest trip down into the depths, Layla still had a bag full of stuff to bring in. Stuff that was considerably more banged up than what she usually brought in, but hopefully some of it would at least be worth something. If nothing else, some of the sturdier bits would still be usable.

This week's haul had a very special story behind it. Once Layla managed to get near enough to the bottom of the sinkhole that she could see it using some light skills, she managed to upset a samurai-like shadow with those very same skills. It attacked her, and she burned it until it died. It left parts of its armor behind, enough to resemble a full (badly damaged) set, but no amount of reforging and modification would make it wearable again. So, with no other choice but to sell it to the salvage shop or leave it behind, Layla chose to sell it.
...Maybe a collector would be interested in it sometime.

There was a very nice chair at the bottom of the sinkhole. A shadow had been sitting in it. A very strong shadow that had nearly done Layla in because it happened to have a very strong ice attack and busted it out at the worst possible movement. Also, it had two lives. But anyway, it had left behind its chair. Layla had wanted to drag it all the way back and give it to the junk dealer, but sadly that was not to be. It was too heavy and Layla was too beat up.
So instead she pulled the sails off the back and took the cushions, and brought in some random other junk along with them.
Layla wasn't entire sure why she was doing this anymore. Sure, money was helpful, still, but it was starting to take up a lot more time than she wanted to spend on it. Time spent hauling junk back to the dealer was time she could still be exploring, or recovering from whatever injuries she had sustained most recently so that she wouldn't have to do it later. Or even trying to do something else productive, while she still could. She didn't even spend much of it anymore, now that she was getting more than what she needed.
Maybe it was time to look into some new weapons or something.

Salvaging junk from the outer circle was just a routine for Layla. She knew that, she hated it, and yet she kept doing it. Even now, a week after she'd first posed the question to herself, she still didn't know why she hadn't stopped. Her previous thought about looking into new weapons to spend the money wasn't even valid anymore. She'd just gone and found one more valuable than anything she could have gone out and bought. What now, then? More weapons? Armor? A lifetime supply of tea? Or would she just end up wasting it on medical bills?
Whatever the case, that Reaper shadow had left behind bits of itself when it died. And if it had been carrying around a celestial weapon, than everything else it had would probably be worth something as well. She brought along a few other things just in case, of course, but if not for her souring attitude toward the whole routine Layla might have been optimistic about this set.

Although Layla had mellowed out a bit after her last frantic rush, she wasn't feeling much better about the salvaging job. The longer she kept doing it, the less point she saw to it. Originally, had done it in hopes that some of the things she brought back would find some use again, or else find their way back to their original owners. But she had yet to see any evidence of that. For that matter, she still didn't know just what the blonde woman running the place did with it all.
But was that going to stop her from continuing? No, not yet. She was still clinging to the idea that something good could eventually come from it.

Another weak, another load of junk to sell off. Layla had used it this time as an excuse to look for more places to explore and investigate. She had once again returned to the farthest reaches of the enclosed area of the city, searching through small towns and strange landmarks to find anything else worth exploring. If any of what she did find was infested with shadows, however, she hadn't been able to sense them. That didn't mean it wouldn't be fun to run in and get lost at some point, of course, but for fighting shadows and getting stronger there wasn't much choice but to go back to areas she'd already visited.
