Outside Tenchi's Home
He’s going to need to make a new jacket soon. This was the second time in a week that he was being forced to repair the friggin seam on the jacket. What’s worse is the fact that it was on the sleeve and it was always a bitch to do anything on that section. The leather was folded over, making it extra thick and harder to drive a needle through. He also couldn’t use a damn thimble because he had sausage fingers: as in his fingers were too damn big for a thimble to fit onto them. He hadn’t gone to the store and instead, settled on the stoop of his place, lounging in the mid afternoon sun. He had his fore finger wrapped up in layers of tape to act as a makeshift strap-on thimble since he couldn’t use a real one.
His other hand was buried in the confines of his sleeve, catching the needle as it drove through. Every now and again the needle would require an extra bit of force and it would jerk into the leather and drive into his hand or fingers in the jacket, and every time he would bellow out a frustrated swear word and continue doing it. One would think he’d be used to jabbing himself with needles at this point but that shit still hurt like a mother. He had settled on a normal stitch job the first time he repaired the seam but it didn’t seem to hold. It wasn’t because he didn’t know how to do it either, Tenchi knew better than the next guy how to properly stitch a seam, but it was simply a problematic area.
This time he was using thicker thread and he had gone with a crosshatch stitch. While he could have just fixed the small section that had been pulled, he had gone ahead tore the rest of the seam open to re-stitch the whole thing; otherwise the torn thread on the old seam would have just continued to unravel at the seam and eventually create more tears. He was being smart about it even if he didn’t really feel like putting forth the effort of fixing it.
He drove the needle in once more and once more into his finger, ”Shit! That one hurt.” He pulled his hand out and put the tip of his finger in his mouth for a moment to suck on the blood. Ugh… today just wasn’t his day.
