Yet more persona-users arrived after Layla, contributing to the battle in their own ways. While many of them were acting on their own, there still seemed to be a loose organization to it all, as though they had done this sort of thing before. Empower their allies, support the wounded, weaken the massive enemy in front of them, then hit it with everything they had. It was a beautiful thing to behold, even if it left Layla without much to do other than keep hitting it. Although, with such an enemy as this, one more attacker could hardly be called a bad thing.
This could not have been more obvious when the shadow finally unleashed an attack of its own, in the form of a powerful aura of darkness. Far from the lightning strikes or even the lesser dark attacks of shadows Layla had fought so far, this one nearly floored her in an instant. Her vision clouded, and she felt pain ripping through her entire body. For a second, she completely lost track of which way was up, and might have fallen to the ground had she not managed to fall onto a tombstone instead. But as her vision cleared, she also felt her strength returning as multiple people among the crowd of fighters took it upon themselves to heal the wounded.
Then, in the aftermath of the attack, multiple things became clear to Layla. One, several of these people knew each other, but not everyone knew everybody by any stretch. Two, many of them were the same as her: just trying to figure out how their abilities worked through experience. There didn't seem to be any experts, save for whoever happened to have the most experience among them. She wanted to talk to some of them, to compare notes and maybe learn a few more things herself, but...well, that could wait until after the battle. And three, however small her own role was in the grand scheme of the battle, it was certainly not to be ignored, because this thing had to be defeated as soon as possible.
Which meant that wasting more time on thoughts was not a good idea. "Hama again!" Layla called out, calling forth Yamantaka again for another flare of light. Empowered by the strengthening skills passed about by the others present, it was once again much stronger than what she had been doing against random shadows in the outer circle. But even then, the massive shadow seemed to have withstood the first assault just fine.
