Fire. Wind. Fire. Light twice over. A physical strike, then darkness. Ice, then another physical strike. Finally, light, then two physical blows. Everyone that could attack was trying to. They were pummeling the enemy with every bit of firepower they could. It was their way of clinging to life- their way of defying the ridiculously powerful enemy before them. All these people, each capable of turning their backs and fleeing, stood their ground and gave it their all. Whether it was defiance in the face of defeat, team spirit, or something else was entirely irrelevant. The fact was that the group stood their ground and unleashed hell on the enemy. It was beautiful- not simply the display, but the fact that all these people, himself included, were working towards the same goal- and it moved him. Effectively, they were all working towards the future, and that was the boy's goal with the student body at the academy.
If only it was simple to present a safe situation for the students to band together like that. That was the pipe dream.
As the Shadow developed its own gravitational pull, Akira grunted, steadying and bracing himself. So Shadows could speak! That was interesting. Almost as interesting as the fact that they were about to be blown away. Or not. The attack itself was a failure. The reaper-wannabe would end up a wannabe for eternity, as it miscalculated. The Shadow committed suicide unintentionally. Beautiful. Absolutely glorious. Once the explosion surged and left the sparkling streams of power, the boy in drag took a moment to relax. Seemed it was really over. That was cool. Good. He pressed forward and observed the area where the enemy had been. Then he noticed the opening leading underground.
”Guys, that was a great job.” He congratulated the bunch with a clap. If he had been alone, there was no way he could have stood his ground. It was a sign that he needed to grow stronger. Not just for his sake, but the sake of that very same group. Had even one part of their structure broken, they would have been defeated- likely killed- in the end. He couldn't stand to the standards that the healers had in that battle. The poisoning was also something he had no means of counteracting. It was another shortcoming, and another thing he'd need to be able to counter to really be a proper support in battles like that. He led by example in the council. He'd need to lead by example in these battles, as well.
”It was both a pleasure and an honor to fight alongside of you. Anyway, there's a path that's been opened up over there. I still feel pretty decent, so I'm gonna take a look and make sure there isn't another one just waiting to come on out. If you still feel like you're good to fight, feel free to tag along. If not, that's fine- just peeking in. You all take care! We'll see each other soon, I'm sure.” And, with that and a wave, the boy in drag made his way towards the now-open path down into the catacombs. He was pretty sure that his secret was still good. More than that, they all succeeded. It was a pretty damn solid night, he thought.
