The wolf was down, but Jaelyn didn't care. The winged shadow was still there. That was what Jaelyn cared about at the moment. She was going to stab him until that mocking attitude of his vanished. She only noticed anything else around her when a hand grabbed wrist. She froze, eyes wide. There was the blonde girl, who had been giving orders of some sort earlier. Orders that Jaelyn hadn't really noticed or cared about. And now she was here trying to stop her!?
"Let go of me!" she said. "I don't need to convince anyone! I just need to prove it to myself!" If her voice wasn't cracking so much by that point, she might have screamed. But her voice couldn't muster the strength for that. She struggled with the girl's grip for a moment, then chopped at a pressure point on her wrist to make her loosen enough to wrench her own hand free. She turned back to the winged shadow, just in time to see a bolt of lightning hit it. Instead of resuming her attack, she jumped away, and in doing so avoided running right into a volley of gunfire.
Finally, she breathed. She watched the shadow reform (reform?!) and there stood the man she had associated with that name. The man with a rather iconic biker jacket...except that the jacket was gone now. But whatever had happened to him, the man standing before her was unmistakably a shadow in human form. Any amount of calm Jaelyn had regained vanished as she watched him leave. "He..." she started, trying to form coherent words. "Sakuya once said...that she killed her human self and took her place. Was that...was that what happened to him?"
Tears were in her eyes now. Not out of grief. As a Persona user, she had never even considered the possibility that she could be killed by her own shadow. But now that she'd seen proof that such a thing could still happen, that possibility felt very real. Even if their conditions were drastically different and she hadn't had it as bad, she was so much like Sakuya. So much like a shadow, who had once been a human.
Was that where she was headed? Was that what she would become?
